For a start, they should consider legal action against the CE of Presbyterian Support Otago, Gillian Bremner, who ordered the destruction of all records belonging to young people who had stayed in its residential homes, and the President of the Law Society, if he sanctioned it. This is beyond evil, IMO, and is deeply shocking. If it is not criminal, it should be, and if our morally flabby politicians will not address it, hopefully an individual or group with the resources to do so, will take civil action.

Abuse is outrageous and totally indefensible. However there needs to be an honest conversation about who should pay. The perpetrators are mostly long gone and Rome cannot be forced to pay a cent. It will be local people many of whom were not even born who will be chipping in.
I suspect that the parasite class will get involved somehow & clip the ticket to enable themself a comfortable income. There needs to be a payout set through parliament with a fixed portion then a set formula for any other adjustments that need to be made to remove the need for the parasite class. There is a risk that some experiences might not be compensated enough but a quick payout should mitigate some of that harm. I suspect that those affected would feel a lot better seeing their abusers subject to justice than grasping for every dollar anyway.

The new agency that is to be set up to monitor care needs to cover from birth to death and needs to include elder abuse by family .
