Urgent action must be taken to prevent a full-blown famine across the entire Strip
A recently issued report by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) Famine Review Committee (FRC) states that the Committee was unable to determine whether or not famine thresholds have been passed in the Gaza Strip, due to a lack of essential up-to-date data in the midst of Israel’s genocidal war, ongoing since 7 October 2023. The International Committee’s report does not deny that there is extreme hunger in the Gaza Strip; rather, the core of its argument is that there is insufficient information to make a firm determination that the situation in the Strip has devolved into famine. The Committee therefore urges all sides to allow for the conducting of field surveys in northern Gaza, in order to gather more reliable data on the state of food consumption, nutrition, and mortality there. The Committee stated that “whether a Famine classification is confirmed does not in any manner change the fact that extreme human suffering is without a doubt currently ongoing in the Gaza Strip and does not in any manner change the immediate humanitarian imperative to address this civilian suffering by enabling complete, safe, unhindered, and sustained humanitarian access into and throughout the Gaza Strip, including through ceasing hostilities.”
Palestinian child dies of malnutrition as hunger crisis rages
Azzam al-Shaer, a Palestinian child, died on Tuesday from malnutrition in Gaza, making him at least the fifth child to die of hunger in the last week as a result of Israel’s offensive on the besieged enclave. Al-Shaer died at Al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City after the hospital was unable to obtain medicine to treat him, according to Ismail al-Ghoul, an Al Jazeera Arabic correspondent in the Gaza Strip. A video posted on X shows Azzam’s small, emaciated corpse lying flat on a table. His cheeks hollowed out and his rib–cage protruding. Azzam’s arms are shrivelled. “Azzam al-Shaer died of malnutrition as a result of the ongoing hunger war practised by Israel against Palestinians in Gaza,” al-Ghoul wrote on X. “This child was deprived of treatment due to the ongoing siege and could not find medicine due to the destruction of hospitals and the health sector,” he said. According to the UN report, which cited the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC): “96 percent of the population – some 2.15 million people – face acute food insecurity at ‘crisis’ level or higher.” The hunger crisis peaked in March, with dozens of children dying from malnutrition and residents being forced to eat grass, as Israeli forces repeatedly killed aid-seeking people.
Hunger ‘worse than bombings’ for starving Palestinians
Ali, in northern Gaza, goes out every day, in the midst of persistent Israeli bombs and shelling, looking for food for his family. “My family, the kids, all of them wait for me to come and say ‘there is food’ or ‘I brought vegetables’”. But most days, he says, he comes back empty-handed and despondent. Rania, in Gaza City, also goes to the market daily in search for food. What she finds is either unaffordable or extremely limited in range. “There are no vegetables, fruits or milk in the markets. Nothing that has any nutritional value,” she tells MEE. Rania’s and Ali’s experiences are similar to those of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, particularly in the north. Along with the relentless bombardments and deliberate targeting of hospitals, and as part of a policy that amounts to collective punishment of civilians, the Israeli military has used starvation of the population as a weapon of war, according to independent UN investigators. The UN’s hunger monitoring system, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), released another report on Tuesday showing that a “high risk of famine persists across the whole Gaza Strip”. The report said more than 20 percent of the Palestinian enclave’s population, over 495,000, are now facing “catastrophic levels of acute food insecurity” involving “an extreme lack of food, starvation, and exhaustion”. Almost everyone else faces “high levels of acute food insecurity” or worse.
Extent of forced hunger crisis in Gaza revealed in UN report
One in four children have starved to death this week in Gaza, where a new UN report has revealed the extent of the forced hunger crisis imposed by Israel in its ongoing war.
Israel has forced over 75% of agricultural land in the Gaza Strip from the Palestinian people’s hands, either by isolating it in preparation for illegally annexing it to its military “buffer zone” or by bulldozing or otherwise damaging it, thereby destroying the Strip’s supply of fruits, vegetables, and meat. Furthermore, Israel has barred food supplies and humanitarian aid from entering the Strip, exacerbating the famine there and enabling the use of starvation as a weapon of war in its crime of genocide, ongoing for nearly nine
EU says delivering meaningful humanitarian aid to Gaza has become impossible
The EU said yesterday that the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza in any meaningful quantity has become almost impossible, as the crisis in the Palestinian territory “has reached another breaking point.” In a joint statement, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, and EU Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Le, warned that “the very fabric of civil society is unravelling,” and that civilians in Gaza, who are suffering from hunger, are now resorting to desperate measures to obtain the limited aid that is trickling in.
Humanitarian aid is piling up at the borders of Gaza, including aid funded by the EU. Some of this aid is perishable and at risk of being wasted.
Save the Children: The Missing Children of Gaza
Thousands are presumed dead beneath the rubble. Others have been harmed beyond recognition by explosives, buried in unmarked or mass graves, or gone missing in the chaos of conflict.
We may never know what happened to some of these children. But every one of them had a story, a family, and dreams stolen from them. Many children have been detained and “disappeared” by Israeli forces. Some thrown into unmarked or mass graves or maimed beyond recognition. Others have been separated from their families and caregivers, at risk of exploitation. Imagine you’re a parent in Gaza right now, desperately trying to find your child. If you even attempt to clear what was once your home with your bare hands, you risk your life to missiles, bullets and unexploded bombs. Two Israeli children are still reported to be held hostage in Gaza. Their condition is unknown, and their loved ones are living with the uncertainty of not knowing if their children are alive.
Israel is forcibly disappearing future Palestinian generations
It is estimated that around 21,000 Palestinian children are missing in Gaza, either buried under rubble or in mass graves, estranged from their families, detained or disappeared by Israel. Save the Children has compiled a report that sets out the impact that Israel’s bombing of Gaza has had on children. With 43 per cent of the total casualties being children, and over 60 per cent of residential homes destroyed in Gaza, not only have some families been completely wiped out, but the likelihood of survival or reunification is also negligible. “Children aren’t likely to survive being crushed by entire apartment buildings,” the report states, while noting that children are “seven times more likely to die from blast injuries than adults due to their still developing and vulnerable bodies.” And yet, Israel’s narrative of “just” going after Hamas still prevails, even though it is clear that eliminating the younger generation of Palestinians seems to be a more pressing aim for the genocidal settler-colonial entity. Burnt, dismembered and disfigured Palestinian children have become normalised as they never should have been.
Israel continues to deliberately bomb UN-run shelter centres, killing displaced people inside
As part of the ongoing crime of genocide it has been committing since 7 October 2023, Israel has implemented a systematic policy of targeting civilians of the Gaza Strip, who are protected by international humanitarian law. This includes intensifying the bombing of shelter centres over the heads of the displaced people inside, as well as targeting areas designated as humanitarian zones.

Prosecutors treating attempted drowning of Palestinian-American child as hate crime
Palestinian organisations and rights groups say Biden’s support of Israel is partly to blame for the rise in hate attacks. On 19 May, a Palestinian–American mother living in an apartment complex in Euless, Texas took her children for a swim in the building’s pool. What followed was a violent altercation where a drunk woman allegedly made racist remarks and then proceeded to try and drown her three-year-old daughter. Prosecutors are now seeking to treat the case as a hate crime, and rights groups say the incident is a symptom of the larger spike in anti-Palestinian racism and Islamophobia that has taken place in the United States since the beginning of Israel’s war on Gaza in October. The incident also drew comparisons to six-year-old Wadea al-Fayoume, who was killed in October when a man broke into his mother’s apartment and stabbed him 26 times. Fayoume’s mother was also injured in the incident. US President Joe Biden commented on the attempted drowning, saying in a statement: “I am deeply disturbed by the reports of an attempted drowning of a three-year-old Palestinian-American at a neighbourhood pool in Texas.”
Biden Team Ignores Israel’s History of Deceit and Deception
Question: How do you know when Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is lying? Answer: He moves his lips.
Israel’s history over the past 76 years is replete with examples of deceit. This was true from the start, when the Israelis denied their role in expelling hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their homes during Israel’s War of Independence. The Arab world refers to the expulsion as the “nakba” (the catastrophe), which is largely denied in Israel. The Israeli legacy of denying the “nakba” is no different from those who deny the Holocaust. The mainstream media bends over backwards to defend Israel’s case, and over the years it has said very little about the history of Israel’s deceit and deception. The Israeli pattern of deceit is particularly important because Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is currently engaged in a new round of false accusations in order to embarrass the Biden administration and divide the American public on the Gaza war as well as the U.S. election. At least, the Biden administration has responded to Netanyahu’s outrageous charge by cancelling an important meeting of the U.S.-Israeli Strategic Consultative Group regarding policy toward Iran in return for Netanyahu’s “stunt.” Netanyahu has spoken privately about his ability to manipulate Democratic administrations because he has the power of the Jewish lobby behind him, and Democratic presidents are fearful of antagonising the Jewish vote and Jewish fund raising on behalf of Democrats.
South Korea NGO files case against Israel for Gaza war crimes
In an unprecedented move, South Korea has filed a lawsuit for war crimes and crimes against humanity against seven senior Israeli officials. A lawsuit has been filed in South Korea against seven high-ranking Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, for war crimes committed in Gaza. The complaint was lodged with the South Korean Police Investigation Agency by the NGO People’s Solidarity for Participatory Democracy (PSPD) against Netanyahu as well as Israeli President Isaac Herzog, Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi, Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, Foreign Minister Israel Katz, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir. According to PSPD, the Israeli officials are implicated in “the planning, ordering and execution of crimes against humanity, genocide and war crimes”.
Republicans demonstrate their terrifying Palestine policy
For well over eight months, we have watched U.S. President Joe Biden and his team of accomplices fund and empower Israel’s genocide in Gaza. During that time, we have also had to endure a constant flow of gaslighting as Biden, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and their colleagues and spokespeople try to convince the public that they would really like Israel to ease its slaughter of Palestinians, but Israel just won’t listen to them. It’s a monstrous charade. And it’s not just the President and his flunkies. The mainstream of the Democratic Party is marching in lockstep with Biden’s support of genocide. Democratic leaders in Congress even signed on to an invitation to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to address a joint session of Congress.
