Let’s get this straight. When it’s Willie in a live debate, ZB proclaim the end of Western Civilisation, yet when it’s National lying…

National confirms tax brochure case studies were fictional ‘scenarios’

National Party deputy leader Nicola Willis has confirmed case studies in election campaign material, where people commented on how National’s tax policy would affect them, were made up.

To accompany the launch of the party’s tax plan, National produced a 28-page brochure.

Under a headline “How National’s Back Pocket Boost supports Kiwis,” were seven case studies understood to be real life people in Aotearoa.

Nathan, an 18-year-old school-leaver in Whangārei was photographed in a local cafe where it said he worked 40 hours a week. Meanwhile, Alice was a building apprentice in Christchurch, with a photo of her in a hard hat and high visibility clothing. Over in Whakatāne, retired couple Bob and Jacqui were relaxing at home on their sofa.

When questioned by AM Show host Ryan Bridge if the images were generated by artificial intelligence (AI), Willis said no.

“They’re real people,” she responded.

But after a viewer did a reverse image search on the image of Nathan, it was found to be a stock image with the caption “cafe handsome Asia man waitress cashes in order bill register working happy at coffee shop”.

Similarly, Bob and Jacqui were a stock image of an elderly couple with a television remote. The same goes for Alice, the female tradie in Christchurch.

As Willis faced an onslaught of questions from media this week on how her tax policy adds up, she was also asked why she claimed the people were real. She then confirmed the images used were actually stock images.

“Yes they were stock images, but they were real people,” Willis said.

“When Ryan asked me about that on AM this morning, I thought he was saying these AI generated people. They are photos of real people”.

But later in the day, Willis said the scenarios they were talking about – and how National’s tax plan would affect the case studies – were fictional.

…Silence over at the ZB Troll Farm…

…no mention of National getting get out.

It’s only immoral when the Left does it.

The current game of picking up half truths or commentary made out of context and holding it up to an angry electorate to scream, ‘See, they’re liars’ is such bullshit journalism.

The policy platform National and ACT will ram through is going to be an enormous shock to New Zealand.

We know Politicians are liars, what we want to know is what they aren’t lying about!

National intends to give rich landlords a $250 per fortnight tax cut funded by mutilating public transport, stealing from the climate change budgets and robbing 2 year olds for Christs sake!

The orgy or privatisation and crony capitalism about to be unleashed  demands scrutiny, not political spin spun poorly.

  1. You can tell when politicians are lying, their lips move.
And that sums up we, the public, barely listening to these self serving pricks.

Willie’s got bigger problems however. I think it’s finallt dawning on him that his input into this government has on an individual basis, contributed to its demise far more terminally than the morons like Wood, Allen and Nash combined!

  2. I hope Mike and Heather get paid by National for their unwavering support. Otherwise it’s a bit sad and tragic to sell your soul for nothing.

  3. Natzos caught with their pants down around their ankles again…

Stock images do technically depict “real people” but NZ National’s use here is a blatant falsification.

What a twister Ms Willis is, no surprise being ex Fonterra.

  4. No Peter Barry someone is telling porkies and that someone is getting away with it cause our media are gutless a…e kissers.

  5. Willy trying to have a sense of humour and a bit flippant with the facts. Hence the booster from the auidence.

Jenny and Damien were the stars of the debate.

  6. Seymour Butt is a dangerous little man, if he gets anywhere near the halls of power he will set Race Relations back 100 years and conceivably start a Race War here in NZ despite having some Māaori Whakapapa from up North.

  7. I saw a media panel the other day on the AM .Ryan Bridge had a ‘media commentators’ discussion with Trish Shershin, ( don’t know who she is or why they get her on), and Patrick Gower.

It was just after just after Nicola Willis and Luxon had been caught out lying about how they would fund their loopy tax cuts idea by using Chinese ‘investors’ to buy up our houses worth over $ 2 million dollars and taxing gamblers.

Both policies are no doubt unworkable and illegal, and even if they were , definitely unsustainable.
Described very succinctly by a top economist as ‘bullshit’. even Fran O’sullivan didn’t disagree with that analysis.

It clearly demonstrated that National have got no economic credibility and no sane ideas. We have been told for decades that over and above everything else goverments must have economic credibility.

Clearly National do not !! They have demonstrated there ineptness straight out of the gates and face – planted at the 1st hurdle.

Jack Tame asked Willis on Q@A for her workings. She refused .
Tame told her that she has to provide the media with the workings to have any credibility. She gave him the, ‘trust me, i’m right’ line.
I expect Tame will be persuing his request for the workings with vigour.

Back to the AM show where Ryan Bridge and Shirshin are trying to deflect National’s main policy plank catastrophe by making out that everyone is bored with the election campaigns already and that Willis should be cut some slack because she’s new to the job.

Patrick Gower , to his credit, stated something to the effect that he is anything but bored and that Willis and Luxon need to front up with the figures, but instead will just deflect deny and defer hoping the media will move on.

National’s main policy plank on ‘managing the economy’ , (which most media reporting is about most of the time throughout the year), is an absolute trainwreck .
But now , when it suits some of them, they are bored and want to move on to other things.

    How convenient!!

    • Well that underlying threat has been there since the 1970s. The Maori reanaissance and the corporatisation of Maori leaders didn’t occur without some potential force behind it.

  8. “The orgy or privatisation and crony capitalism about to be unleashed demands scrutiny, not political spin spun poorly.”

The right are unafraid to use the power. Why with an historic mandate why did Labour not do anything major? May be the parliamentary team are beneficiaries of the status quo.

They have nothing big achieved to proclaim a good record at the election. There are 100 increments on the website but these are not talked up in the media. They needed a tiktok on each one.
