Paula Bennett: National’s Christopher Luxon has the attributes of a leader
He has an extraordinary work ethic. Yep, I know, this is the example of when in a job interview you are asked what your weakness is and you say: “I work too hard.” I’m not sure if he works too hard because it is his passion and he genuinely gets off on it. Personally, it’s an attribute that I am happy for a leader to have.
He is a family man. He will talk about his family – and yours – and takes a genuine interest in what is happening in people’s lives. He is funny. You don’t really get that on the telly or in his radio interviews. When I left politics a lot of people told me that I am funnier than they thought. The reality is that you are on TV for a few seconds as a politician answering a serious question and telling a quick joke first isn’t appropriate.
He is a religious nut job who has to walk everything he says back because his first instinct is a conservative Christian instinct.
Paula Bennett on the other hand is a despicable human being who threw state tenets out onto the street using a flawed meth testing regime. She was told numerous times this was flawed, she was told numerous times she was misreading her own Ministries standards but she didn’t give a fuck.
A person willing to trash the weakest and most vulnerable amongst us should be degraded every chance one gets.

It’s always annoyed me that Paula Bennett isn’t egged whenever she appears in public.
Note the disclaimer the Herald gives her…
Paula Bennett is a former Deputy Prime Minister and National Party politician who now works at Bayleys Real Estate as national director – customer engagement.
…this isn’t true. Paula is a high ranking fundraiser for National and Bayleys Real Estate have donated $200 000.
This isn’t a column, this is propaganda.
The Herald is merely a mouthpiece for the property industry who will publish any lie, any falsehood to screw the scrum.
Don’t get tricked by rich pricks.

Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

What are the current circulation figures of the N.Z. Herald these days? I can’t imagine they’re too healthy, considering its constantly full of complete garbage (and barely any useful information)
Are you trying to excuse the Herald on the grounds that their circulation is dropping?
Actually, if what I read was true (and I cant verify it) but the Herald unlike the Stuff empire is actually doing better than it has been including being the only physical Newspaper in NZ to have a growing readership. A year or so ago, the Herald was decidedly left leaning (Not Stuff level but definitely on the centre left). Now it is more centrist and heading a little right (but nothing like as right wing as it was in the Shonkey days) and one cant help but wonder if that is why their circulation is growing?
Think about it, NZ media is terminally left – 85% of journalists identifying as left to very left. In fact the proportion identifying as very left was huge. There are all sorts of platforms like Sean Plunkett springing up to cater to the 40%+ of NZers who are not being heard or represented. Print media is in terminal decline and viewing is way way down. So the Herald have seen which way the wind is blowing and have said – No more creamy PIJF money so we better get back out there and woo paying customers. Who are they? Who have they traditionally been for the Herald? Those on the right.
They stop the leftist echo chamber and people start reading them again, in fact loads of oldies who enjoy opening the paper over breakfast have opted back in.
At least she did something about unruly state tenants unlike our current masters who had 10000 complaints and removed 3 yes 3 families . While I am sure the vast majority of state tenants are good people and good neighbors there is a number who are not and should be moved out .
Trevor. Are you there ? Are you there, Trevor ? She kicked families out of homes with, I think, faulty meths testing which doubtless brought in some handy dosh for another Nat clinger.
She kicked Hurimoana Dennis good and loud when he showed that he could do what she couldn’t do, housing homeless families, and helping breadwinners into permanent abodes and jobs, from Te Puea Marae, with a fraction of the resources and ear bashers at his disposal, compared to what the fat lady singing had.
Paula got to be Deputy PM, IMO, because two small men needed somebody it was easy to feel superior to, not that that’s saying much. Vulgar as, which certain sorts of males do rather like, boasted about how much her shoes cost to a meeting of Nats, which is a fourth form level sort of performance, got interviewed saying that she was in love with Bill English’s brain, the wee double dipper from Dipton, who did his damndest to make sure no one would want to employ any of our young guys, quit, then inexplicably got a hearth brush hair cut to look like Mike Hosking.
Between you and me, I’d have zilch confidence buying a house from Paula, but she’s an Auckland sort of thing, and the Herald, I think, joined the braying mob silencing real women’s voices, mothers’ and grandmothers’ voices at Albert Park, with the odd punch or two or three, which doesn’t suggest to me that they care about home or family values very much at all even when they’re sober. They’re just pushing for Luxon.
And now it’s Paula, the Oracle at Delphi, proclaiming the family man model pollie because he’s as funny as some people apparently used to think that she was. Being a bit of a joke doesn’t equate with being funny, and everybody deserve better than this.
No, Trevor, she used fake Meth reports to throw out people regardless. I seriously doubt that she looked for evil tenants in advance to use such an utterly illegal scam upon. The Meth – P tests were later shown to be utterly spurious. No whitewashing, please.
And didn’t she invent tenanting families in Rotorua motels to solve their housing crisis? Sorry, I mean as their ‘Comprehensive Housing Plan,’ so her party supporters could whinge and bitch when the time became right, that the Government was housing people in Rotorua motels.
Hey Trevor, got the stats to back up your claim or are you alluding to the fact that Nats sold several thousand state houses and got rid of tenants that way. Was she ever Minister of Housing.
And the hypocrisy continues from the Herald by using Joyce, Hooten, Hoskin, due Plessis, Soper, Hawkesby , etc as columnists.
She was a teenage mother and lived on a benefit with her gang associated boyfriend. She was also a ‘wait person’ at a truckstop *nudgenudgewinkettywink* she occupied a state house when there were families in real need.
Anyone can work hard ( bankrobber, scammer, despot) its whatits for that matters. Ive experienced Mr Luxon for 20 seconds as he breezed past uttering two words ” thats cool ” at a food fair and the only impression screamed FAKE
Of course she is there to offset that other shill
Shaneel Lal
Ra Henare Is that the same Lal who is advising His Majesty’s Government about sex education for kiddies? The King who Chipster presented with sausage rolls from the inhabitants of New Zealand ? Did you know that Government House in Wellington used to be a lunatic asylum, but they closed the asylums down long ago, and dispersed their occupants into the community where some do well for themselves, and others do not so well, but nobody cares very much about people any more.
If she’s a party propagandist, what about Shane Te Pou on the same page?
Shane te Pou is a commentator, he is not a member of any party. And frankly some of the things I have heard him say are definitely anti Labour.
She is in the Nats up to her eyeballs and is as has been pointed out a fundraiser for the National Party.
That’s the Herald making a lame attempt at pretending to be balanced. I don’t think Shane is a fundraiser for Labour in any way similar to Paula.
Or Simon Wilson…
No different to Andrea Vance, Jessica and Tova, Simon Wilson, Shaneel Lal. NZ media is riddled with propogandists, mostly very left of centre.
As pointed out Fantail ”
“And the hypocrisy continues from the Herald by using Joyce, Hooten, Hoskin, due Plessis, Soper, Hawkesby , etc as columnists.”
We are talking NZ Herald. Tova and Jessica last time I saw weren’t Herald columnists. Don’t start on radio commentators you’d lose that debate also.
Got me there CB, my comment was more generally about the media being highly biased and propogandised across the Board. It happens on the left and the right. So Bomber’s comment is rather moot.
Paula probably deserves a more up to date photo – stop covertly hating on fatties Bomber!
Welfare, be strong grow out, be you.Eh! gut cut,who you.Engel, who you.
Few of your readers know who Engel was, let alone what he said. You are wasting your keyboard finger energy.
Bennet, what a belty tight gutless, THATCHER, brain.
goneby100 Both were girls from the grocery shop, but Thatcher was intellectually superior and not a personal public bully like Paula. Paula’s moralistic grandstanding about JL-R was disgraceful.
It’s called the “National” paper for a reason.
The list of right wing columnists is very long.
Pull’yer Benefit was one of the worst of the worst Natzo Ministers in recent years. Trained by arch neo liberal Paula Rebstock, including being sent to the US to see how they shaft the vulnerable there. She remains a despicable ladder puller.
The Herald is the Natzos very own in-house newspaper just like ZB is their radio station.
Given what she has done, she will indeed go down in history as the worst politician ever and by a country mile.
Have to agree Gus, in a time of many despicable politicians, Bennet was the worst, even Crusher never quite plumbed those depths.
Quite correct Fantail and Crusher was horrid.
Yes but Paula Benefit grew up on a benefit and relates well to how tough it is on a benefit.
Without the Catholic schools doing so well. The education system would be even more munted than what it is. They are the one shine in g light.
And grew up on alcohol, cannabis, party life and reportedly gained income whilst on a benefit, so be careful claiming her to be a shining beacon of light on the benefit Marco.
National passed its 2021 total in the first four months of this year, courtesy of a $1.8m haul from a round-up of rich-listers in a fundraising drive by former MP Paula Bennett – including $250,000 each from Graeme Hart, Murray Bolton, and Nick Mowbray.
How to buy an election 101.
We used to refer to them as ‘Benefit Babies’ – not dissimilar to the ‘Anchor Babies’ produced by illegal immigrants in some countries. Paula was a teenage mother with ‘Bad’ssBoyfriend’ and they grifted for years on benefits and in a state house. Young Paula, endowed with plentiful streetsmarts ripped off the system for everything right through her political career. I actually thought she was doing well in the private sector after years of system abuse, but here she is, campaigning for her party aided and abbetted by the old crone of NZ news. Paula Bennett wasnt made of the stuff some other single mothers were – working, raising their child/children and leaving benefits for those who were in real need. Paula Bennett has not integrity and zero courage.
