Hipkins disagrees with Biden’s assessment Xi Jinping a ‘dictator’
Prime Minister Chris Hipkins said he doesn’t believe China’s leader Xi Jinping is a dictator, after US President Joe Biden gave the Chinese leader that label this week.
Speaking at a fundraiser for his 2024 reelection yesterday, Biden made the dictator comment while stating Chinese President Xi Jinping had been “embarrassed” by the spy balloon Biden ordered shot down over US airspace.
“That’s what’s a great embarrassment for dictators, when they didn’t know what happened. That wasn’t supposed to be going where it was. It was blown off course up through Alaska and then down through the United States. And he didn’t know about it,” Biden said.
“When it got shot down, he was very embarrassed. He denied it was even there.”
Ahead of his trip to China with a trade delegation, where he will meet Xi, Hipkins was asked by a reporter in Lower Hutt if he agreed with Biden’s dictator comment.
“No, and the form of government that China has is a matter for the Chinese people,” Hipkins said.
What the Prime Minister meant to say was that we will call our Chinese Economic Overlords ‘God Like’ right up until America or India buys all our cheap basic milk powder, and then we will immediately side with Australia and America to invade Taiwan.

Why juxtapose democracy and communism?
Neither is mutually exclusive of the other.
NZ land of plenty, come here, have zero prospects and turn to crime and murder. I’m less worried about Xi and more worried about the social harm that is happening to NZ, in the name of the woke, who are more interested in helping Gang crime with legions of prospects for crime coming here and inevitably hurting other people. Woke seem more interesting helping expand crime in NZ, than preventing it. Then they wonder why the jails and justice is full – the Ponzi continues because we need more translators and corrections staff!

Laying aside all the hackneyed cold war rhetoric and anti-communist spin, hands up all those who have actually taken the time to research the Chinese political system and learn something of how it works. How, without wrecking the economy of other sovereign nations it has brought more people out of poverty in the last thirty years, including Tibet, than ever before achieved in history. And how all would-be politicians must first prove their worth in service of the people, in local assemblies, prefectures or councils, if they are ever to progress to higher office. And how, with its “Belt and road” initiative, China is already bringing prosperity to the poorest nations, currently ravaged by failing Capitalist influence, the IMF and World Bank, despotism and corruption. It will be worth your time
They might have done all this but at the cost of the climate. Massive heatwave in central China the other day. China is the world’s top emitter of greenhouse gases. Great to get people out of poverty, but not too good for them to then die in heatwaves, droughts and floods.
And by the way, it may pay to read up on accounts of China’s impact on Tibetan culture.
Even when America had no baby milk powder they wouldn’t let us sell them milk powder. They would sooner have their poor children starve than stop the protection of their dairy farmers. They are supposed to be our friends?

I’ve met some really amazing yanks, but their politics are centuries out of date, and it shows..
Where societies are going is as important as where they have been.

China once had compulsory abortion as a population control measure, now it hasn’t.
USA once gave women the right to control their fertility, now abortions are legally impossible in many states and the restrictions on contraception and abortion is increasing nationwide.
