I’m really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, loving watching Green MPs trying to tell everyone that this bullshit meaningless nothing of a climate crisis announcement is worthwhile.
If you believe as I do that the climate crisis is an existential threat to our species, being carbon neutral by 2050, after the polar ice caps have melted, is not a solution.
By 2030, over 50% of the oceans will be collapsing as bio-habitats.
By 2030, East Coast cities in the U.S. can expect to see two to three-times as many flooding incidents.
By 2030, 122million will be driven into extreme poverty as direct result of climate change.
By 2030, 100million will die as a direct consequence of climate change.
By 2030, even if the Paris Agreement is actually implemented, we will see a planet warm to 3.4 degrees by the end of this century meaning there will effectively be no future civilisation capable of surviving on a planet that warm.
By 2030, the global annual cost of global warming will be $3trillion.
2030, the number of extremely hot days — classified as maximum temperatures of more than 35C — are tipped to climb in all many cities.
If you think being carbon neutral by 2050 is an answer, you are part of the problem.
This isn’t Green, it’s a pale lime.

Hilariously, Christian Lex Luthor blunders once again under the high ball and manages to take all the news focus off how disappointing the self defeating Greens have been with this blancmange of nothing by brainfarting some stupid thing his boofheadness thinks without really thinking…
National Party leader Christopher Luxon has defended calling for corporations to slash their emissions while saying he would allow oil and gas exploration.
…on top of this, he hilariously demands no corporate welfare to fund transition, EXCEPT for the Cow Industry, they can have as much corporate welfare as they can gulp down.
So he’s calling for companies to slash their emissions with no help from the Government (except the Dairy Industry that National are slavishly submissive to) while opening up more gas and oil exploration?
There are 10million cows in NZ, each cow generates the faecal load of 14 people, that’s 140 million people pissing and shitting all over our waterways, and that’s no issue for Christopher, but giving them a break is fine?
Christopher believes in an evangelical prosperity theory where his 7 properties are evidence Jesus loves him and he’s special.
That’s what National are selling a frightened and uneasy electorate, Christopher’s sense of self certainty.
Christopher is certain God loves him, and he imbues that certainty effortlessly in his 45 second CEO soundbite routine, but beyond that, he has zero intellectual curiosity in anything other than God loving him and allowing him to live his best blessed life.
Christopher cares about the first class passengers and when he wants to be ghetto and working class he talks to the pilots and first class cabin staff.
Christopher considers those who can’t afford to fly as bottom feeders.
Thankfully for National strategists, Christopher’s contempt for the little people doesn’t detract from his certainty, it probably boosts it.
NZers love being bossed around by rich men in suits. It fulfils a lot of suburban fantasies for both bored wives and repressed husbands.
Christopher’s ability to become David Shearer after 45 seconds won’t blunt Christopher’s appeal to frightened and angry voters who hate Jacinda, because Christopher’s certainty is what those voters desperately want and need.
Meanwhile the world burns and planet melts in what is rapidly becoming a run away event of cascading environmental crises.
The mega drought which has been caused by extreme weather events has interrupted the global agricultural calendar and is an exacerbating factor alongside the Ukrainian war that will spark a famine and mass uprising throughout the Middle East that will quickly spread.
The climate crisis is upon us and the Greens have no real solutions while National will only make it worse.

All climate change prevention activists are hopelessly out of touch, tilting at windmills and deluded to think they will make a difference. None of the hopeless climate change prevention’s are of any consequence due to China becoming a first world nation. Best enjoy the human farewell party whilst one can, the results are conclusive; humans are in for a massive reduction in population numbers due to the appetite for coal from the likes of China, India and other nations determined to become first world citizens. Of more interest would be the discussion in regards governance once the party is over. Will we revert to tribalism?
Worth a read (dated a year ago but still totally relevant);
https://www.cfr.org/backgrounder/china-climate-change-policies-environmental-degradation
“Coal, which makes up nearly two-thirds of China’s energy consumption, is largely to blame. The country is the world’s largest coal producer and accounts for about half of coal consumed globally. The government banned the construction of new coal-fired power plants in 2016, and coal use appeared to decline. However, when the ban expired in 2018, construction of new plants ramped up again. In 2020, China built over three times more new coal-power capacity than the rest of the world combined, according to Global Energy Monitor and the Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air.
China’s staggering pace of urbanization has also contributed. Urbanization increases energy demands to power new manufacturing and industrial centers, and construction of these centers relies on high energy–consuming products such as cement and steel. Another contributor is the increase in cars on the road: In 2018, people in China owned 240 million vehicles, up from about 27 million in 2004.
Internationally, China is the largest financier of fossil fuel infrastructure. Through its massive Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), China has built or is planning to build hundreds of coal-fired power plants in countries around the world. More than 60 percent of BRI-specific energy financing has gone toward nonrenewable resources. Greenhouse gas emissions in more than a dozen BRI countries have soared. Researchers found in 2019 that BRI could drive the global average temperature to increase by 2.7°C, significantly higher than the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C.
China can not support New Zealand and neither can New Zealand support China.
Unless we use the ETS to draw China into carbon capture.
With the Greens orchestrating things I’m not sure how clear they’re thinking. Asides from making sure the NZDF has no war like capabilities.
The irony is The NZDF makes sure there is peace at all.
The Greens actions towards the NZDF is why I left the party.
Their published policy (PDF) is still the best one that I’ve seen to date but their actions are the exact opposite of that turning the entire Green Party into a bunch of liars.
As I refuse to lie, I left.
Yet the Greens would be some of the first into reeducation camps or worse, end up like the American Green Party.
It’s possible to have a de nuclearized planet earth it’s just way way way! To early! Resources need to be distributed, justice dished out and we will need The NZDF for the latter.
There’s so many war criminals that need a really good hiding and hauled into the international criminal court and we will need a full suit of NZDF capabilities and the SAS for that. I trust The NZDF in that role far more than America or China and the lads want to deploy. Currently they’re not.
Not to mention that far from the current rapid climate change being “unprecedented”, it’s now becoming clear that as high as 3-8°C variances in temperatures over a 40-80 year window can and have occurred in the past.

8⁰ can’t happen no way.
Good (sarcasm) the race nazis managed to cancel the school kids climate strikes then by making kids feel they are racists for protesting after the race nazis cancelled themselves and the movement. (and lets face it, some oil business or the like, is bound to be behind this brainwashing).
BTW Brainwashing is brimming in the schools where gender and race groups are paid or allowed to access the children without parents consent.
@SaveNZ. The rise of identitarian culture-politics from fringe academics to the zeitgeist is the perfect distraction from neoliberal economic-politics, post-Occupy Wall Street.
One can follow the funding of trans activism and ideology (nothing to do with trans people) in co-opting the gay rights movement. No doubt the same is true of other branches of intersectional ideology. Certainly the high priests of the CRT movement have become personally wealthy, despite in Kendi’s case being unable to define ‘racism’.

Its one of two things.
1, Luxon knows any actions we take, even if we removed every carbon emitting vehicles off the road now and ending animal farming simultaneously will make NO difference to climate change and is therefore pure virtue signalling. And maybe he realises such attempts to mitigate it, for show, will worsen the outcomes for most New Zealanders.
2. Or despite the sense in proactively doing better with climate change, possibly making NZ a leader and be able to profit from home grown technology to combat our issues with CC, he is too slow and unimaginative to realise that and is a belligerent stereotypical Nat who doesn’t give a shit if there isn’t a buck in it for him and his ilk.
Hard to say!
Everyone keeps banging on about China etc but no one seems to talk enough about local air quality and the local environment. Global warming aside, why would you not want to improve the local environment, phase out coal fired energy, and reduce CO2 omissions in the main cities? We are fucking up our local environment air. water sources etc. Our oil extraction figures seem to indicate a reduction over the years that has nothing to do with not issuing new permits. If it is, and I doubt that is the reason, because sites are drying up doesn’t that make renewable energy and less reliance on foreign oil even more compelling? I suspect it’s more to with company margins just like Marsden point was. Shareholders didn’t find it attractive and bailed.

C02 is a really big topic around these parts. Heres one comment Iade a few days ago and there are more commenters who argue for C02 reductions it’s weird to see a statement like that https://thedailyblog.co.nz/2022/05/18/forest-owners-say-native-trees-are-nice-but-wont-solve-the-climate-emergency/#comment-643908
Global warming aside, why would you not want to improve the local environment, phase out coal fired energy, and reduce CO2 omissions in the main cities?
Because doing so would destroy the global financial/market system.
Heard my sister and her son talking about why petrol was so cheap. The answer, of course, is because the governments/business manipulate the market so that it remains cheap. Can’t go round having the actual costs appearing in the prices of imported goods after all as then people would a) complain about inflation and b) stop buying as much thus reducing profit.
There’s an article that I read many years ago that showed that if the price of oil went above US$10/bbl the world economy would collapse. Inflation adjusted makes that about $150 – the same as it was during the so-called oil crises of the 1970s and where it reached during the GFC.
If it is, and I doubt that is the reason, because sites are drying up doesn’t that make renewable energy and less reliance on foreign oil even more compelling?
It would – if the government was acting rationally but they’re not. They’re acting to maintain the failing capitalist system.
Right New Zealand moving away from coal consumption, and reducing co2 omissions will destroy the global financial system?
We can all do our bit by eating plant burgers, not flying, not drinking milk/ eating cheese, not driving cars, motor bikes, not buying electrc cars ( the used tyres disposal and battery’s still contribute to climate change) …. I hope all the Green Party voters are doing the above every day… and if they are not, then they belong to the wrong party
