The magnitude and scope of ACT’s attack on the State is as breathtaking as it is alarming.
ACT believes in the hard-right mantra of less State, more market and David Seymour’s desire to mutilate the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Ministry of Women, Ministry of Pacific Peoples, Ministry of Ethnic Affairs, Ministry of Māori Affairs as well as the Human Rights Commission is the most extreme policy platform seen since Rogernomics scoured this nation in the 1980s.
This is on top of billions cut in welfare, Kiwisaver, Winter Heat payments, student loan interest free payments, working for families payments and best start payments.
National’s reliance on ACT to form a Government will be the first time National has solely had to rely on ACT giving David enormous leverage to shape the most right-wing Government NZ has ever seen.
This amputation of State capacity is justified because none of these Ministry’s make money, but the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Ministry of Women, Ministry of Pacific Peoples, Ministry of Ethnic Affairs, Ministry of Māori Affairs as well as the Human Rights Commission DON’T HAVE TO MAKE MONEY!
That’s not their job!
Their job is to provide political voice and representation to make our democracy worthwhile, they aren’t there to generate income or be judged on market KPIs.
There are things worth more than dollars and cents in a democracy and ACT’s desecration of those values in the name of such banal cost evaluations shows us a Party who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.
The hard-right nature of ACTs policies should alarm all those who care about civil society in New Zealand.

Unfortunately, the best arguments for gutting the civil service have been by the behavior of the public service itself : unaccountable , woke, derisive of the general public, increasingly employing more spin doctors instead of doing anything.
Best personified by the Human rights commission being completely politicized and only targeting rights for certain woke in-groups as it does, but silent on government over reach during covid.
Other highlights outside those mentioned by ACT:
* government ministries adopting Maori names so they are less accountable – do a survey on who knows what their Maori names mean or what departments even are anymore
*NZTA employing 88 PR consultants and spending almost as much on spin as construction. Don’t underestimate the annoyance of slamming speed limits on roads all over the place on those who actually work for a living.
* The ministry of how the fuck can you disappear 1.8 billion dollars extra for mental health and actually make things worse, and not be in jail?
* the ministry of taking Maori foster kids back from white patents because critical race theory
* the ministry of not kicking out violent state tenants
* the ministry of sponsoring gangs 2.8 million dollars
* the ministry for radio/tv woke propaganda
Shall we go on?
On a certain other Labour leaning blog I noticed one of the main posters listing a “booming public service” as one of the positives of the Labour government. Amusing.
The majority of the public are well sick of their life being made more difficult by bureaucrats banning and slowing and interfering in every facet of their lives.
Time for a huge clean out,
So KCC you need to fix the direction and focus not necessarily eliminate everything. Are you suggesting we have no ministry of health? 1.9 billion was BUDGETED” over five years. The money has not disappeared, and probably not even a quarter spent. Agree with the theme of incompetence but are you suggesting jail for not spending?
100% Keep calm…
The ministry of Women, which now includes any body who says the are a woman ie men
The more civil servants there are, the less poverty there is.
Why don’t you just admit you want US style healthcare imposed?
“ACT believes in the hard-right mantra of less State.”
You reckon among the waves of support that have gone to ACT in recent times will be many complaining about the cost of living and want the state to intervene in supermarket and petrol prices? “Labour are useless” so they want a government who’ll do something? And ACT is the answer?
Its act that need to be gutted not civil services we wouldn’t have such a low death rate from the deadly covid if we did not have government funded services. Also all the overhype about money spent and money wasted is nothing but fearmongering as according to IMF our country is in a good space financially and we still have relatively low debt to GDP ratio in the mid thirties I believe.

NATZAct will check the pulse of your wallet before they check your heart – USA style government.
Housing should get bigger and cheaper then, sounds wonderful.
We don’t have to eliminate everything, just some pointless departments, and a much overdue clean out of others.
Dose of Reality:
Kiwi’s are NOT going to continue working 40-60 hours per week OR in high pressure jobs if they CANNOT exchange that for homeownership.
The best skilled migrants are NOT going to choose NZ given our low wages and high cost of living.
Chinese tourists and students are NOT coming back. China is literally “cutting” citizen’s passports. Why you ask? Because China is protecting its foreign currency reserves. If you want to leave China, it needs to be for business advantageous to the “motherland”.
There likely won’t be meaningful/well-paying jobs for unskilled migrants, especially if the service sector continues its decline.
Skilled workers ARE and will continue to move overseas. NZ tenancies are notoriously unstable, so MY prediction is when tenants are moved on they will look overseas (especially Australia) for accommodation – bypassing NZ altogether. This will be rightly exacerbated by a social-media-feedback-loop.
As housing will continue to stop anything productive and productively in general, Labour will continue the wasteful spending. Nothing will get done/built for the reasons outlined above. Labour will continue to waste money on consultants, increased bureaucracy and pipedream projects.. this will just result in the NZ dollar declining, which will result in capital flight: buying foreign currencies, property, stocks, whatever – causing a negative-currency-feedback-loop.
People still won’t be able to afford housing and less houses will be built, crime will be horrific.. as such nothing will be done/built and things will get much, much worse.. THEN, the new Chloe Swarbrick documentary will come out to illustrate the wasteful spending of NZ on Air.
Bureaucrats will of course be able to afford 2nd and 3rd houses, ideally in gated communities.
Job well done I guess.
Act aren’t what we need and it looks like National are gaining back some of their voters so if we look at the polls Act is consistently losing voters so the polls disagree with ya Bob
ACT.are.simply a bastard child enabled by a corrupt National party and neither should ever be near the power of office again. They destroyed our once great country and their coalition abomination is only supported by those of self entitlement.
Their immigration ponzi scheme is exactly why we have today’s societal issues. It’s one thing to increase a countries population, it’s another to not fund the increase. The pressure on all structures including health, education, housing and poverty is why Labour are having to spend millions to correct these issues. And here’s the thing ACT wants to reinforce their time in government with punative policies and well, National don’t have any. So good luck returning to the days when our country was ruined and destroyed by an inept, corrupt and lying Nact coalition gvt.
Suffering Jesus!!
According to his own party website, “After returning to New Zealand in 2011, David advised John Banks on the initial policy development for Partnership (charter) Schools, ”
Charter schools are basically monetisation of our childrens’ data, which under Hekia Parata’s direction was (or is, I dunno) data-shared to UAE in Dubai.
Any educationalist worth their chops will tell you charter schooling negates any individuality/creativity therefore dulling critical thinking.
Mr Spiffy might like to explain all of this and where does our tamariki data actually go and what is it worth and to whom the dividends actually go to.
