1. I think one needs to draw a distinct differentiation between two groups of people regarding vaccination sentiments.

   There is the anti vaccination group you are referring to, but also another group who are pro vaccine but anti authoritarianism state governance.

   The two groups are lumped together by the state to proceed with their authoritarian missive.

   Example of this is the (not being reported in NZL – surprise?) truckers convoy in Canada. They are against authoritarian vaccination mandates, not the vaccinations (90% are vaccinated).

   However the Canadian state has labelled them anti vaxers and right wing extremists. Showing that the state is tone deaf to the peoples concerns.

   The same in NZL. Try being against the authoritarian state vaccination mandates and you are automatically labelled an anti vaxer, right wing extremest and a Tamaki disciple .

   Bring up the truth that in South Auckland the scanner app is defunct or that South Aucklander’s do not go and get tested when unwell (due to draconian mandates that are all but impossible to be adhered to by the overcrowded, under payed, unsupported poor). one is labelled a spreader of misinformation. Why the labels? So that the authoritarian state and the controlling elites can keep the narrative that “all is well” if you just follow the two legged animals directions.

   Declaration: Double vaccinated and boostered (pro vaccination). Against authoritarian state vaccine mandates based on keeping control of the population through fear. Public health is no longer free of manipulation by the state and their elite advisors.

Pope Tamaki claimed the devastating Kaikoura earthquakes were “GOD’ expressing his disapproval of homosexuality. Anyone expressing that perspective should automatically be banned for life from ever influencing any person on any topic yet Tamaki has an army of misguided halfwits convinced any perspective their messiah expresses on SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2). and the vacine / mandates must be 100% correct. They are all worthy of contempt only.

   I’m also concerned at the level of misogynistic abuse directed at Ardern. I’m not an Ardern supporter but can express my disapproval of her performance oh housing for example without resorting to personal abuse. I was disgusted at what I read online about Ardern in late 2017 just prior to election day. Ardern’s grandmother sadly passed away three days out from election day so never got to see her granddaughter Jacinda Ardern become the NZ PM. Instead of feeling sadness and sympathy for her, I read hundreds of vile messages online. This was the theme. “Horse face is the sort of lowlife who will be happy her grandmother has died so she can now cash in on the sympathy vote”.

   I’ve never seen a NZ PM or any politician on the planet have their appearance mocked and ridiculed as much as Ardern has and also had their name butchered as much as Jacinda Ardern has. Neanderthals have found a slimy corner they can gather and express their appalling misogyny at a female that had the audacity to become Prime Minister of our beautiful country.

        Allow me to ask you a series of questions.

        You stated the long term effects of the vaccine are unknown. Are you aware of the short term effects / consequences of not taking the vaccine? You do appreciate we are deceased for a very long time? What point is there worrying yourself about your long term future when you may not even have a short term future? Are you aware of the long term effects / consequences many of the foods you eat? Have you looked into it? When people get very sick with Covid, are you aware of the long term effects / consequences of the harsh drugs used to help save you in ICU? You’ll be aware of the risks in driving a car or being a passenger on an aircraft. Do you still use those modes of transport? If so why? Calculated risk?

        Have you ever taken any vaccines? Have you studied the potential long term effects / consequences of other vaccines?

        Do you support the freedom of cigarette smokers that feel it’s reasonable to smoke inside a vehicle containing other passengers that don’t smoke cigarettes?

        Experts agree the true number of deaths from Covid now far exceed 20 million people. It’s a fact that the overwhelming majority of those deaths were with unvaccinated people. If it was possible to go back in time and show each one of those deceased people their future, what percentage of them do you think would go and get vaccinated immediately? 100% ?

        What is your medical and scientific background? How many decades have you spent all day every day studying viruses and vaccines?

        Prior to a vaccine arriving what was the best weapon in the toolbox in the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) battle ? The lockdowns have without doubt saved countless lives. Maybe your own or someone close to you. Is that important to you?

        The vast majority of the world even including those that despise politicians, know the vaccine is easily the best weapon in the Covid battle. Do you agree? If not, what is your alternative solution to keeping you and your loved ones above ground? Is that solution practical for over 7 billion other people on planet Earth?

        Why do you draw a parallel with those trusting the vaccine with those that believe in Fairies ? Pope Tamaki makes all sorts of ridiculous claims yet some feel he believes in the biggest fairy of them all. Do you support Tamaki ?

I should have made that explicit – although I would have thought my reference to guesswork on the one hand and reliability and trustworthiness on the other pointed to my disagreement with all those who take an anti-vax position.

        • The total no of deaths from all causes last year was just under 60 million. As a proportion of total population 7.54 per thousand. the previous 3 years it had been 7.6. down steadily from around 12 in the early 70’s. The people who have died last year from all causes + covid are less than average, so statistically all the people who died of covid last year were going to die of something anyway. Most certainly a cursory glance at statistics does not find any excess deaths, certainly not 20M. The total mortality would have been around 80 Million instead of 60.
          However this year is looking like it night be different. Life insurance companies in the US are finding claims in the 18 to 60 age group are up this year by 40%. And it is from a variety of causes mostly related to side effects from the vaccines. Insurance claims for deaths that are proven to be caused by the vaccine however, rather from a range of immune deficiencies with the cause hard to be sure of, are being rejected on the grounds that taking the vaccine was a known risk taken voluntarily.

    I think you have to be in a position of responsibility to qualify for legal action, so I’m sorry but you don’t register on scale. Comment is free in a Democracy that champions free speech. You can say whatever you like.
    As you will know there is a huge case being brought to the Hague by Rainer Fuellmich et al along these lines. So we will see what we will see.

16. I think that there is an opportunity for praise that has been overlooked. That is the brave and determined manner that antivaxxers have shown in putting themselves into the front lines with this disease.
    Looking at the statistics it is so obvious that the systems set up to protect the community are working while
    the antivaxxers stand above all. I wouldn’t have the guts to do this, and choose the unknowns of refusing vaccines like lifelong weakness from Long Covid over the unknowns of receiving them, for 99%? arm soreness and possible worrying pains for a few days.

    Looking at the latest Covid stats as visualisations –
    for New hospitalisations the figure is 83% unvaxxed and 17% partly vaxxed.
    for deaths from the Delta outbreak, it is 10 for unvaxxed, 2 for partly and 3 for fully vaxxed.
    (So Covid may still carry you off if you are really sick though vaxxed.)

      • You make a point RC that needs looking at. The ability to make decisions based on a reading of the facts and likelihoods and choose the best available if a decision must be made. So many things to make decisions about so why is that not taught in schools. Life is so complex at present and will continue to be so till everything collapses and there are only two ways to choose from. Also would be helpful when looking at political elections. How to choose the best of faulty systems.

    You called out the media for saying the protests were dangerous and violent (while pointing out that there is potential for violence in future if inequality gets worse)

    Some of the figures in NZ media and academia are constantly on some sort of witch hunt looking for people who disagree with the mainstream on one thing, you don’t do that, I’ve seen blogs where you try to get into the mind set of all sides.

    At the end of the day for a lot of people the anti vax protests (or anti passport ones) are an angry reaction and a symptom to a larger problem in NZ about inequality, class, alienation, this pandemic was the perfect storm for all the seeds planted in the last 38 years to come to fruition.

    I have no truck with conspiracy theorists either but I’ve always thought you’ve been pretty good at addressing and communicating the fears of people who were hesitant, angry or just don’t trust the govt.
