Is this what we are doing now?
Really?
If you think being a landlord is difficult now, can I suggest you grab a cup of tea, take a seat and breathe through your nose.
Because, until now, whatever battles you’ve faced will seem like a fairytale.
These sweeping changes are a potential minefield that many landlords may find chilling.
But if you’re one of the 600,000 renters – this gives you more certainty and more power than at any other time in the country’s history.
Sadly, some of Thursday’s changes are so extreme and so heavily weighted in favour of the tenant, that I think more people will miss out on securing a rental property.
Landlords won’t take risks – and I think people may shy away from being landlords too.
Basically, the Mongrel Mob may end up moving in and you can’t do much to get them out.Â
For a start, you must give them 90 days notice instead of 21.Â
And you can’t just kick these munters out for any old reason – not even for being anti-social.Â
You must record three anti-social moments, and only then can you move to kick them out.
Ok.
A couple of things here.
1 – Screw the Landlords! I don’t give two shits what Landlords who have speculated into a rigged casino and have enjoyed untaxed wealth and a market desperation caused by that rigged casino have to say on any issue. They are the ones laughing all the way to the bank! Their tears and triggered snowflake feelings should be ignored the way we ignore bleating Farmers and rich white racist old talkback hosts.
2 – If you didn’t want to be responsible for providing shelter to another human being in conditions that must meet a basic standard – THEN DON’T BE A LANDLORD!
3 – Are we honestly using the Mongrel Mob as the example here? There are 600 000 renters and 7000 total gang members. Not just the Mongrel Mob, total number of gang members. Which represents just over 1% of all renters.
Is Duncan Garner really claiming that by forcing scum Landlords to just give a tiny amount of their total power away we will be suddenly swamped by barely 1% of the rental market and will succumb to an apocalyptic wave of Gang rentals???
How credible is it to use barely 1% of a group to denigrate all members of that group simply because Landlords are being forced to give up some of their privilege?
How is that example of gang members to terrify viewers even closely resembling the truth?
How?
Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

Fortunately the link displayed a photo, because I was wondering who Duncan Garner was.
If you can’t do the right thing by your tennants whilst you are using them and their position to make your fortune, then please quietly fuck off all together.
Well as a one time landlord my experience was that after the christers sold the furniture and moved out owing months of unpaid rent I ended up with gang members renting my little house they cleaned it up and put in a garden. Functions were held in a tent in the back yard. The only problem were the police coming to see me , telling me to move them out.
Watching Garner for the last 6 months it’s becoming apparent there is an issue with him. His presenting is effectively bi-polar.
While I disagree with the new laws and believe the law of unintended consequences will far outweigh any latent ‘good’ in the legislation, Bomber’s picking apart of his argument is spot on. Latent scaremongering and not wedded in logic when a critical eye is cast.
Surely if someone turns up in patches and tattoos on the back of a Harley you can work out that they are a gang member and make a judgement call on their prospective tenancy.
Puffy Garner’s AM segment was equally as vile. He brought in a guest representing landlords and the both of them proceeded to denigrate renting New Zealanders for 10 minutes (the flabby wrinkles on Garner’s forehead jiggled furiously throughout, his receding hairline, missed by the makeup team, now bare to the world). It culminated in Garner asking his guest for advice on what sounded like a rodent problem: “How do we get rid of these people?”.
I wonder how many Mongrel Mob are landlords themselves.
Hosking, Garner, foot n mouth disease!
All landlords are scum of the earth. There are no exceptions. They feed off other peoples misery.
7000 but expanding rapidly….

Nice to see that that international billionaires like to live in super yachts now… in NZ… no doubt they will be recruited by government to become the new ‘landlords’ and asset owners of NZ and get NZ citizenship to boot.
“A billionaire banker sentenced to three years’ prison for smuggling a $44 million Picasso painting out of Spain has been refused entry to New Zealand – but the yacht he attempted the crime on floats in Auckland.”
“Immigration NZ advised they issued visas to 11 crew members of Adix and a 12th crew member on board was a New Zealand citizen.”
“The yacht first docked in New Zealand at Opua, Bay of Islands, in December last year and has since sailed down to Auckland to be moored alongside the superyacht of another European billionaire Jim Ratcliffe – who owns Ineos Team UK.”
