Four consecutive Polls in a row, Newshub, TVNZ, Roy Morgan and UMR, have all put Jacinda and the Labour Party in the unprecedented position to be able to govern alone.
This has never been seen before in MMP elections and the possibility of governing alone is there because a majority of the electorate were impressed by the way Jacinda handled the Pandemic lockdown.
Voters who may never have seen Jacinda outside news story sound bites or 5minute breakfast TV interviews suddenly had her live 1 pm daily for an hour at a time. This gave Jacinda and Labour a level of exposure most politicians never achieve in a full-term let alone 8 weeks.
That exposure at a time when many voters felt vulnerable gave Jacinda and Labour a level of support never seen before.
But.
There is one thing looming that could cost Jacinda and Labour all that goodwill.
It’s the unlocking of our border.
To date, the vast majority of Kiwis accepted the logic of the lockdown and complied with it willingly, but if the virus gets back into New Zealand and it is perceived to have gotten back in because of bureaucratic incompetence, those very same vulnerable voters who flocked to Jacinda will turn on her.
The push to try and get the economy back up and running is driving the demand to reopen our borders, but this mindset seems to ignore that without a vaccine, we can not go back to business as usual.
The 14-day quarantine must be mandatory for every tourist entering New Zealand and a track and trace on all their movements while in NZ must also be part of the agreement to visit here as it will be returning Kiwis or tourists travelling to NZ who will be the new transmission points for a re-infection.
New Zealanders didn’t go through the sacrifice of a lockdown just to have it wasted by getting re-infected.
Jacinda needs to have her best people on the border or risk losing the enormous political capital she has built.

I can’t see Jacinda or anyone in government or opposition not being extremely careful about opening borders.
What a wast that would be if they were opened to a country that could not be trusted to have eliminated the virus. And Jacinda has reason for huge confidence in her own judgement by this time and she isn’t going to loose focus on the issue is she!
It would be a most extraordinary development for labour to loose an election in September. It isn’t going to happen.

The push is coming from those with vested interests and political right leaning policies are; – “tourism, hotels, motels, and travel industry.
It is them who are acting in a very reckless manner at present by deliberately increasing their pressure for Jacinda to loosen rules about opening up the borders, and it appears they are keen on making jacinda unpopular whichever way her Government goes presently.
This is a political ploy to cause jacinda to loose popularity.
We advise Jacinda to “stay the course”.
We say “we have set our course and will never deviate”
Jacinda can quality this need to keep our borders closed until we have a vaccine available to everyone free, by saying;
“Our care to keep our borders closed at present – is firstly for our citizens ‘public health, safety, and well being, so. protecting our own people from exposure before it tries to enters NZ is our duty because all Citizens have earned our Government’s care and loyalty to them, as they alone all have suffered greatly to keep Covid 19 out of NZ.”

Importantly this time do it with the blood – ‘serology” test for antibodies” which show we already have been affected by the virus here is the details on that test we wrote about recently 28/may 2020 as Canada is now doing this testing for antibodies on at least one million of its own population for a start where we have to yet begin this type of test.

WHY?
We need to know who has actually developed immunity to the virus.
We do not have these tools at present in the test protocol
NZ Ministry of health is using only the nasal or throat swab test, which can ‘migrate’ from the nasal or throat in a few days we are being advised.
The current ‘nasal throat Swab’ coronavirus test look for the virus’ genetic material in a sample of mucus, which is usually collected by a nasal or throat swab administered by a health care worker. and only diagnose a current infection.
Whereas the antibody test (also called a serology test) finds who develops immunity to Covid 19.
It signifies that the person has been exposed to the virus long enough that their immune system has been responding to it- which is the real gold standard now being used.

The following report here confirms that the current NZ Ministry of Health nasal throat swab test can be false negative in several ways.
Proof is below; “A ‘negative’ coronavirus test result doesn’t always mean you aren’t infected”
This was found reported in China during their pandemic, and they resorted to ‘lung Xray’s’ to confirm that the patient was seriously ill after so many confusing false negative swab results were repeatedly found occurring there, as reported here.
And this also shows how false Swab testing is.
“A test developed by the researchers was able to detect 2019-nCoV in oral swab samples. But samples taken about 10 days later did not have a positive result.”

With Msm constantly braying about ending lockdown and opening up the economy,numerous international surveys for the US ,UK and NZ show around 3/4 of actual citizens don’t want to reopen prematurely .
Under constant pressure to reopen the borders Labour would be wise to poll the mood of all NewZealanders which would give the popular and moral mandate to hold fast on tight border management.
Remember 92% of all kiwis felt locking down was the right thing to do , so a similar large poll result to keep borders closed , tactically would clearly counter right wing pressure to reopen .
