  1. Here’s YET another one for @SaveNZ – a situation that we’ve known for ages that is more the norm than not:
    https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/116802378/i-have-no-hope-penniless-migrant-relying-on-foodbanks-after-boss-fails-to-pay-up (Steve Kilgallon again)
minds me of a BBC documentary a decade or so
Yet nothing substantive done about it.

Then there’s the complete lack of action for those that find themselves penniless and in a Catch-22 situation, such as above, and who descend into various forms of escapism and crime in order to survive, or who are seriously vulnerable to suicide.

It reminds me of a BBC documentary of a decade or so ago (one of those Panorama or Our World strands) of Britain’s forgotten. Stuck there under similar circumstances – some people for more than a decade and who would have like to go home but who didn’t have the means. (Stiff upper lip though eh!)
So lil ‘ole NuZull decides on similar policy settings that have caused it all because its “best practice”.

You’d think in the above case that Chorus (being the wonderful corporate citizen it is) would come to the rescue. Not unless they’re pushed! How long has it been so far since all that sort of stuff became known?

    • Yes, absolutely Oncewastim. For every one of savenz stories there are a myriad of these disasters that just dont see the light of day. We bring these migrants to nz and tie them to a single employer and fail to hear the echos from the past. Slavery anybody? Oh no we’re much too nice for that these days…

      • Stop slavery by stopping the visas being granted at 250,000 per year in NZ under Labour in the first place. With 50,000 new residents being created often from the scams.

Because not only is it increasing slavery in NZ to the migrants it is also making a fortune to the slavers who are often migrants themselves or big business from overseas like Visonstream and Chorus a NZ company which is disgusting to be involved in the practise!

Jobseeker up 11%. The jobs are fake. Stop the visas, and fine and prosecute with huge penalties the employers sponsoring the visas if they change the conditions.

Employers who exploit should get their permanent residency and citizenship cancelled, be deported and face huge fines. iI they are a big business that profits from exploited migrant labour aka Visonstream and Chorus, should be fined and prosecuted too, for aiding and abetting the migrant visa abuses and slavery aka the use of ‘volunteers in return for fake work visas’.

      • @Spikeyboy, who do you think is most benefiting from having 250,000 temp visas issued each year in NZ, it’s the Fletcher’s and the Chorus’s and VisionStream, because they can have hundreds of subcontractors wanting to work for free and pretend they don’t know what is going on, with the labour that contributes to their profits.

The people most losing out are the honest poor both migrants and locals in NZ. And some of the poorest in NZ are Maori. Should they have to compete for low cost accomodation and jobs, because it was often Maori and Pacific Islanders who did ‘blue collar’ jobs in industries like trucking, telecoms, construction, aged care, support care, farming… now do you think local Maori and PI will ‘volunteer to work for 3 months unpaid’ like the migrants? Nope! That is why jobseeker is up 11% and why big business wants migrant labour to flood in.

From a tax point of view, the welfare system now has to support the local people displaced from the work force, the new people who gained residency on the back of fake jobs which didn’t exist, the relatives of the new residents who piggy back on the visas, the decreased cost of labour in NZ which means that nearly 50% of people living in NZ need a government subsidy … accomodation going through the roof… health care rationed, more infrastructure needed etc etc. None of that is increasing the welfare quality offerings, it is just stretching them out further.

If the migrants can afford to study in NZ and flights in the first place, they are probably middle class to rich in their own country. They are better off than the NZ local poor who are getting poorer, and we are starting to get intergenerational poverty in NZ from locals and in my view the government should be throwing resources into that, not enriching migrant visa scams and middle class migrants who fall on hard times here through often their own people scamming them in NZ. Stop the Visa scams, have huge penalties for abuse of the conditions tied to them should be the mantra, not deregulate them so that more people flood in and work for nothing or next to nothing.

You seem to be a misguided anticapitalist who wants to help the capitalists the most because you fail to see who is benefiting the most from the scams and who is paying for it the most in NZ society!

        • Save your bean counting till after those who are hungry have been fed. Taxes are collected regardless. Its not going to cost you personally a cent more to help with the feeding. Last time I looked the oh so incredibly needed amazing sub hunting equiptment was going to cist $1billion. Thats a lot of fed migrants. Why not do something useful with your time and rant about that every day ad finitum? Its complete bollocks your penny pinching migrant bashing when put alongside such extraordinary waste. Or the $9M for Israeli robots. These are the reasons why your logic and humanity are in question.

          • I love how the’anticapitalists’ always think that benefits, cheap housing, infrastructure, schools, health care, is someone else problem to pay for while they laze around telling people to work harder and pay for the world’s middle class to come and set up here.

It might be hard to understand for those that fail to actually work and pay taxes, but money doesn’t magically appear out of thin air, bit like those houses that we don’t see coming through, that the woke and the politicians told us we were getting.

Making real things happen, not just a paper study, keyboard warrior for migrant rights, or working group, is a bit more complicated than that!

Many of the people coming to NZ pay tens of thousands to get here, they are not poor!

But many of the people who live in NZ are these days are poor, and practically every social statistic in NZ in going down in NZ against our previous place in the world!

Just like our government is giving our water to the rich, they are giving away our benefits to the world’s rich who can buy residency here!

By the time Gen Z and millennials get old the cupboard will be bare while we will have enriched families, many of whom never paid any taxes and don’t even work here.

Poor people can’t volunteer to work for free for 3 months by the way!

The victims are those already here and just the links above show who is being prosecuted for exploitation and it’s recent migrants turned exploiters of migrant visas. So the quality control for permanent residency/citizenship here in NZ is somewhat lacking if that is anything to go by.

          • The fact that social statistics are going down is not something you can blame on migrants. Like I say its convenient for people like you and business and the government to make choices like the $1billion for submarine search and destroy and then to be able to say oh very sorry but now theres no more money and by the way the reason everything is so bad is because of migrants. It may also surprise you to learn that actually money does appear out of thin air magically. Where else can it come from? Even the previous reserve bank governor of England admitted that this is exactly what happens every time a bank lends money. Do you think tjey only lend against savings? How very naive of you.

            https://positivemoney.org/how-money-works/proof-that-banks-create-money/

    • @OnceWasTim , just saw it, yep it is a bad situation and being caused by bringing people into NZ and giving out visas as a scam to exploit people and also lowering the overall industry standards of work.

This has been caused by Chorus and the subcontractor model to the OZ Visonstream, which then creates networks of subcontractors with more subcontractors.. normally using migrant labour so they can lower their labour and condition costs as local labour will not work as zero hour slaves.

Time, employers who sponsor work visas have to pay a $20k bond to make sure they are solvent when the visas are issued and to be held in case of dispute to pay their employees money that is owned to them. Otherwise increasingly we are seeing visas issued (and who knows how much money changes hands to get the visa on the back of a fake job) and then a few months later the person is made redundant or conditions of the visa such as wages and hours are cut….

“His visa was renewed for the final time in December 2018. A month later, Ndarowa gave him notice he would be made redundant on March 1, though he would be paid everything he was owed. “This was like a bomb on my house: I was so shocked. A month earlier I had my visa approved – so how had the company become so weak in a month it cannot support me?””

This situation of the subcontractor model that employs compromised labour with terrible working conditions hollows out the entire industry because nobody can compete with migrant labour which in many circumstances is paying to work or being grossly underpaid to their visa conditions. There needs to be a $250k fine to the employer (not company) when they sponsor someone in, then end up not paying them.

The whole system is dysfunctional in every aspect from relying on the abuse of workers, to having so many people in NZ bringing in other people (aka his wife and unborn baby) who need accomodation and health care , while their job is a fake job. And more and more people join the Ponzi.

Time the government imposed actual bonds and huge fines on the actual employer when this keeps happening including jail and deportation for the crime! Take the crime seriously. Our labour laws are a joke and many victims of it, including tens of thousands of Kiwis who now can’t get accomodation, falling health care per person, increase in emergency grants, 11% up for Jobseeker, etc

The issue is not going away, it’s numbers of temporary visas under labour is increasing, as it’s now a legitimate business to bring migrant labour into NZ, make them work as ‘volunteers’ for nothing, get a visa, and then abandon them to the NZ taxpayers and state and the government doesn’t seem to think to stop the process at source from happening aka the visas not being dished out at 250,000 per year, and then prosecute the employer and make them prove their business is solvent, and make them pay a large bond, in the event that they can not continue to employ that person under the visa conditions they signed up to.

  2. Another look at the OPCW Douma findings
1st secretary general of OPCW Bustani, part of panel that decries “unacceptable practices” exposed by an OPCW whistleblower
There are whistleblowers and whistleblowers it seems .The media is not interested in this one
Probably for the same political reason that Postol’s work on Khan Sheikoun was removed from a scientific journal .(It would challenge the hard fought media campaign against Assad.Swaying public opinion takes a lot of money and effort )

    • It was fitting that we were sent this important press release on this day.
    http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/BU1910/S00504/iwi-leader-launches-criminal-lawsuit-against-omv-ceo.htm

We fully support the Iwi legal challenge against another polluter and ‘climate spoiler’ such as OMV is.

    QUOTE;
“ An iwi leader has announced the initiation of a lawsuit to be filed at the International Criminal Court against Rainer Seele, the CEO of Austrian oil giant OMV”.

This was another very good Iwi policy that has considered the health ,safety and wellbeing of all citizens, and we commend the Iwi for making a bold stand against those corporate interests who wish harm upon our NZ citizens and we stand together with them in support and solitude.
