Why is it only Communism when the Greens do it?

When is a state-owned supermarket ‘communism’ but a state-owned bank isn’t?
Winston Peters thinks the state buying a bank makes economic sense but his reaction to a Green Party policy to do a similar thing with supermarkets had him riled up about “communism by stealth”. So, what’s the difference?
Stuff
In NZ, it’s only communism when the Greens want the state rot step in and properly regulate the market!
When Winston wants to do it with the Banks, it’s Economic Sovereignty, when Greens want to do it with Supermarkets it’s ‘Communism’.
The double standards are embarrassing.
Why does the Left have to lecture the right wing corporate media on Capitalism?
Why do they and the right only seek to empower the Duopolies, Monopolies and Oligopolies?
The Commerce Commission has the tools to break up the Duopolies, it isn’t Communism!
Capitalism requires Competition, our food insecurity demands solutions and our cost of living pressures demand solutions.
What the Greens are offering up is a real solution, the State needs to provide the regulation our markets desperately need!
Independent Media is more important than ever, especially in the lead up to the Election. TDB is the largest Left Wing Blog in NZ and we have been operating for 13 years. Both are stupid ideas
Sure the Greens could build a Supermarket brand (would it sell meat? what about that river polluting dairy milk?) Or they could break the three biggest supermarket chains into six and the two distribution networks into four and change the regulations to encourage Aldi or Sainsbury to open here. That would take some years.
On the other hand overnight the Greens if in power could simply stop taxing food. That is an immediate action to increase the amount of food available to a family by 15% or cut a families food bill by 15%.
NO GST ON FOOD!
Winstone was around when Muldoon decided that people saving for their retirement in a national superannuation scheme was also communism. Things have not changed and people will still be fooled by the same old rhetoric
Winston was around when Muldoon scrapped Labours Superannuation sovereign wealth fund. How rich would this country be if that sceme had been running for the last 50 years!
Winston tried to put things right with a compulsory retirementg savings scheme with 3% of wages rising to 8% contributions. He sold it as an addition to the normal pay as you go pension but once in govt changed the scheme to an eventual replacement of the pension. There was a referendum on the scheme and it was rejected by 91% of voters.
Winston is a master at changing the rules to suit himself! He’s too arrogant to see that many of us have long memories. He is such a hypocrite it’s a wonder he is still in the mix! To accuse the Greens of ‘communism by stealth’ is laughable. Of course we need a “NZ owned” supermarket chain where the profits stay in our country. It won’t be easy or cheap to set up but in the end will more than pay its way and give our people a chance to buy better and cheaper food. Go away Winston, you are again out of order! Read Martyn’s last two paragraphs!
In supermarket terminology, Winston’s past his ‘use by’ date!
Winston Peters is an embarrassment. Like when he said we don’t use trade to sanction illegal activity by Israel…..but with Russia we have sanctions. I guess when you kiss the arse of a deranged US administration that also breaks international law the double standards are just par for the course.
