Why is Chippy agreeing with right wing propaganda? He knows there’s an election on right?

‘Love to see better numbers’: Chris Hipkins on Labour’s 25.9% poll result
Labour leader Chris Hipkins has refrained from branding a second consecutive poor result in a Taxpayers’ Union-Curia poll as “rogue”, but concedes he’d “love to see better numbers”.
This month’s Taxpayers’ Union-Curia poll, released this morning, had Labour on 25.9% – the party’s lowest return in the poll since July 2024.

What the bloody hell is going on?
The reason TDB doesn’t include the Taxpayers’ Union Poll in our Poll of Polls is because Curia is not in the Research Association of New Zealand, the ethical body for polling which means they are open to criticism of weighting to get what ever result that serves their interests, just like the Taxpayers’ Union!
The Taxpayers’ Union are the worst faith actors in the play, why would you take anything they have to say as gospel?
The only thing Chippy should have said is, “Labour doesn’t believe in fake Polls from fake Unions”, and that would have been the headline.
What does he do instead? He refuses to denounce it as a rogue poll and he admits there’s a lot of work to do as if he’s buying into the right wing propagandists argument!
Look.
I appreciate the Labour Wellington Mandarins of Incrementalism keep telling him to be a small target, but he’s becoming so small he’s disappearing.
He’s looking less like Yesterday’s man and more like Yesterday’s ghost.
Labour are aware there’s an election on right?
They understand that they have to actually throw a punch at some point? Right?
Friends don’t let friends believe anything the Taxpayers’ Union has to say.

Maybe that’s what Labours internal polling is saying. Maybe he really is in the shit.
That’s what I tried to post—not successful
Because he is right wing! He vaguely agrees with national and act and NZf on everything (it’s only ever the greens, top and tpm policies he rules out) he just says he wants to tweak right wing policies so they work better.
Hipkins doesn’t want regulated capitalism that would require heavy reforms, he wants to manage the neoliberal status quo, he doesn’t have any deep seated ideology.
The left needs to make the right fall in love, the right can just say tax cuts here, the left need to inspire people, it’s not about policy it’s about the message the policies send, he’s totally incapable of delivering the kind of campaign that the left ALWAYS needs in order to get elected.
He’s now twice ran a right wing low target campaign with the same leadership style, the same team behind him against the same opponents and in two months unless there is an 11th hour leadership change he will twice see the labour party being decimated (we’re talking 2002 bill English levels this time)
Forget the roy Morgan and the Curia, labours polling trend has been downwards for the last few months because Labour has been getting more equal air time for the last couple of months, and the more they see if Chris Hipkins the more they go “hard pass” and the more labours polls go down.
There’s two months till election day, enough time for him to step down and be replaced by a Kieran McNulty, the shorter the better because it gives the right less time to master their attacks.
Hipkins campaigns like Jacinda governed, boring moderate managerial nothingness, Jacinda would have gotten Phill Goff numbers in 2017 had she campaigned how she intended to govern, instead she ran an Obama style populist lite campaign that made people fall in love with labour AND SHE STILL CAME OUT TEN SEATS LESS THAN NATIONAL UNDER BILL ENGLISH!
Labour cannot win on this kind of beige nothing strategy from opposition, labour has never won from opposition without exciting the public, there is no powder being kept dry, Chris Hipkins just shouldn’t have ever been made leader to begin with, he’s a boring policy wonk, he’s not a Jacinda and he’s not a Helen Clark and he’s not a Lange or a Kirk, he’s a Phil Goff.
If we want this govt gone we need a new labour leader. Every scenario that requires National to lose the Treasury benches requires labour to be around or above 30%, that’s not happening under Hipkins, we’re talking a 19-23% result with labours vote being split between top, greens, tpm and nzf which pretty much ceeds 2029 to national as well.
Dudes gotta go.
I have to agree…..never ever give these crooked clowns any hint of credibility whatsover…..
They are no more than a pack of lying dishonest dirtyplaying fleabitten mongrels.
You don’t need to try and dance around and tread lightly with this pack of lying cheats….just punch them hard in the nose and call a spade a spade..you’ll get way more respect from the electorate that way.
He is worse than useless. Where are their policies? There are none. This is beyond ridiculous at this point. Labour is a completed laughing stock with Chippy the clown as leader.
Better starts here says the LINO marketing. Most don’t believe a word of it.
Luxon can’t believe his luck.
The Taxpayer Union-Curia Polls are pure CR&P and always have been! It’s fairy tale propaganda and those putting these dishonest polls out know this. If they don’t then they must believe the tooth fairy and Sanda Claus are real people! Of course it’s brainwashing and hoodwinking and aimed at those who haven’t the acumen to comprehend what their game is? These untrustworthy polls should be challenged. They are so corrupt it’s almost laughable. Do they really think voters are so stupid? Maybe some are but many of the Left are in so much pain, they can see what is happening and will vote accordingly! How anyone with any brain matter could vote this failed CoC in again, would be the joke of the year. AGAIN where the hell is our media on this? Hipkins might not be the perfect leader [if there is such a thing] but he is “scrupulously honest”, a rare quality in our current CoC ,and is experienced, intelligent and means what he says. He is a sound pollitician not a masquerading clown! Wake up folk before it’s too late to save NZ!
You do not want to believe the results but to me they concur with what most people I talk to say .Hipkins may mean what he says but what he says is meaningless. After 3 years of Opposition they have little to convince voters they are primed to take over the country. Their star card is the 3 free doctors visits .All this will do is put greater pressure on a system already under strain .It takes 3 weeks toget an aappointment with my doctor and there is 8 doctors in the practice. I can pay but are happy for those in need to be paid for . The sponsoring of public transport is good but these are the only policies I know about .Not enough to change for.
Do these “most people” come up to you with tears in their eyes Trevor?
We can easily imagine the people you talk to!
Hi Trevor, you seem to be ill informed. These are Labour’s commitments to date – https://www.labour.org.nz/our-policies. Labour is only promising what it can deliver, not like the promises this CoC has made, many of which have never been honoured. Hipkins has been in politics since 2008 and is a man of principle. Sorry I can’t say that for Luxon. It was actually cruel to put Luxon into the role he is in. I’m sure we can all see, he is not fit for purpose and the Right have no one else!
While there are some worthwhile ideas they are hardly ground tracking and convincing voters they are not the Party that left the country in a mess last time and make us prosperous and able to pay for their plans
Labour have spent this entire election cynically promising as little as possible to get into power so they won’t be held to anything. They’ve been relying on National loosing instead of providing a platform of hope and solutions to New Zealanders.
They and Chris deserve to loose.
So true…
I don’t think they’re being cynical so much as merely being spineless.
I sometimes wonder if Jacinda’s success happened because there was no time for any political experts to come up with a plan when she got the leadership and she just had to be herself. All the good stuff she’s known for were all from events where there was no time to get advice and she just had to wing it as well.
In some ways it’s a pity because Labour should have stayed in opposition in 2017 and then they might have learned their lesson. Although the British Labour Party had 15 years in opposition and they clearly didn’t learn anything useful.
That’s a pretty accurate assessment John. This is modern politics in NZ though, the left promise and deliver nothing, so as not to scare the middle class. And the right promise nothing, so as not to scare the middle class, and deliver economic voodoo and financial ruin. And the Overton window marches ever more to the right and a dystopian future.
“They” didn’t leave us in a mess, that is just rabid righty BS. What left us deflated was Covid, you know, what you and all the other trolls conveniently ignore.
