MEDIAWATCH: When even a Capitalism Cheerleader like Liam Dann throws in the towel…

Shots fired!
Shit just got real…
Slow recovery: Why it’s too late for the economy to save National now – Liam Dann
Will the economy ever actually recover?
You could be forgiven for doubting it right now. But it will.
Of course it will; New Zealand still has plenty going for it.
The cycle, painfully slow as it has been, will turn.
Either the international volatility will settle down, or we’ll get used to it and carry on.
There’s no shortage of big long-term structural issues to worry about.
But the structures that maintain our short-term viability remain robust.
We have open markets, a free-floating currency, a reputable Reserve Bank, a powerhouse export sector and considerable household net wealth (at more than $2.5 trillion; we’re richer than we tend to acknowledge).
That’s why we still have a good credit rating.
Immigration and tourism will keep picking up; the country is still beautiful, and the people are still friendly.
Our housing market will pick up; confidence will return to our big cities and, Bob’s your uncle, there’ll be cranes dotting the Auckland skyline again.
New Zealand will get its mojo back. It always does.
But here’s the pressing political issue for the Government: it’s not going to happen before November 7.
It’s not even going to be close.
Blame tariffs, blame oil prices or blame the spending spree of the last Labour Government.
National will surely blame all three.
However you cut it, we’ve run out of time for economic conditions to materially improve in time for the election.
NZ Herald
…Economists, Business Journalists and Commentators all have to cheerlead and stay positive about capitalism. Even before denouncing the possibility of the green shoots of recovery occurring in time for the election, Liam sings empty praises.
Capitalism runs on never ending positivity plus venal greed.
Anyone who trips up any of the Animal Spirits of the Free Market gets denounced for heresy against Adam Smith.
Never think the Right aren’t as dogmatic as Marx, they’re just greater at being deluded by undeserved self belief.
Unfortunately for Liam.
He’s wrong.
Things aren’t getting better.
The game of selling each other more expensive houses and calling that wealth is over.
The reason why this Government’s slash and burn policy isn’t working the way it did in the 90s and 00s is because household debt is now so high, people can’t pay for the extra costs the Government is dumping on them.
Ironically the Government are borrowing MORE than Labour while hollowing out public service budgets.
The destruction of the infrastructure pipeline that National embarked upon has had catastrophic consequences to the industry and the communities that rely on those jobs.
The Unemployment situation has completely gotten away on the Government as the lack of Government support triggers more job loses.
We have ignored how hard right Nicola and Luxon are.
For them, the steep cuts in public services are the achievement.
There is a better way and we need to fight for it.

And now E CAN has admitted they fucked up and the water in Canterbury is toxic .But they approved another 2000 cows last year .
Very soon we will see what being up the creek with out a paddle really looks like .
We are swlling milk and meat dirt cheap because the dollar is worth bugger all and all are deluded that farming will save NZ .We have arrived at the pointy end and its all down hill from here .Because the dollar is devaluing faster than Luxon can spin shit we are being forced to pay way too much for everything we import .Willis has failed to grasp that fact and continues to blame everyone else instead of asking for help .
Time for radicle change as continued tax cuts are never going to get us anywhere .As a person who thinks running a country is like running a business or a family home she ids deluded .Common sense and experience should tell both her and Luxon that reducing income for those homes and businesses will never increase growth of any sort .If my income drops 10% then I am in the shit ,and thats what has happened here as for years tax cuts have been used to bribe the stupid voters and now the cupboard is bare .The same can be said about councils who have been voted in for years because they said they would not increase rates ,now we are about to be hit over the head with a brick of reality .
Willis saying there will be no new tax increase is a lie because road user and fuel taxes are to increase after the election because she failed to allow them to happen this term .Cant kick them down the road for ever .I doubt we will ever see any new ferries in the future either .
Funny how the economy tanking is always associated with National trying to fix the problems that Labour has caused?!?!
Full disclosure, I think both parties are neoliberal fools and the only difference between them is how fast the bottom 90% of the population goes backwards in real economic terms
When selling off state assets didnt work for previous governments their answer was to look for more assets to sell. I suspect this government, if given a second chance, will do the same and double down on failed policies.
