  1. How much more damage has to be done before Kiwis wake up to the fact that commercial trawling is damaging and needs to be stopped? Data has reinforced the impact showing NZ trawlers reported hauling up more thant 35,000kg of “protected coral and sponges” over a six and a half year period, despite the industry claiming they avoid coral habitats! This is probably not even the real amount! Bottom Trawling has to stop NOW. Coral plays a vital role in our oceans by building the physical foundation for rich marine habitats, protecting coastlines from storms, and supporting over 25% of all marine life. Coral reefs host filter-feeding animals, like sponges that clean the water by trapping harmful particles and waste. FGS Kiwis start to think about saving our planet not ruining it for monetary gains. As a species we have already done immeasurable damage and all political parties need to agree to eliminate Bottom Trawling now, not reduce it!
