The People’s Parliament – How Labour could manage Green, TOP + TPM more radical policy aspirations

For the Left this election, winning 51% is just the first step, it will be the negotiation with Labour that will be the real test.
National exists to stop Labour from gaining power, Labour exists to stop the Left from gaining power.
The Labour Wellington Mandarins of incrementalism will want Chippy to strangle off any real change, but if TPM, Greens and TOP are smart, they will demand a united front negotiating team that forces Chippy to cede real concessions.
A clever means to release some of the political pressure would see Labour agree to more than they want and place the more hardline policy to a ‘People’s Parliament’ where TPM, Greens and TOP could tour the country promoting their more radical agenda and allow them to build support directly with the electorate to create momentum for those bigger ideas for 2029 election as a genuine mandate.
Independent Media is more important than ever, especially in the lead up to the Election. TDB is the largest Left Wing Blog in NZ and we have been operating for 13 years. We get zero funding from NZonAir and we don’t have no rich backers. If you can donate please do so here or directly into our account –12-3065-0133561-56

If Chippy thinks he’ll be able to sit there doing nothing all over again and not let us have meaningful improvements in many areas, tax, electoral reform, labour law, climate and the usual governmental concerns, he’ll get a nasty shock.
His popularity is strongly tied to Luxon’s unpopularity.
We expect much better from Hipkins this time seeing he wouldn’t stand aside for younger, more interesting leaders.
We gave him the benefit of the doubt after the covid years. We knew they were all exhausted. We knew he wasn’t going to as interesting as Jacinda but we hoped he’d have a clear direction.
That won’t suffice this time. This time he’s going to need to deliver on his own.
He will have some good ministers and we want to see them given a chance to do important things. The way they suffocated David Parker was disgraceful.
Labour shouldn’t need the Greens and other lefties, nipping at their heels.
They should know what progressive changes look like and get on and do them.
“National exists to stop Labour from gaining power, Labour exists to stop the Left from gaining power.”
Exactly and precisely.
Non of it will matter. The ultimate delivery of outcomes is a consequence of fiscal policy. NZ government tax revenue is now much lower than it was in 2023 and commitments from Labour to balance the books are going to limit any significant policy implementation.
‘Labour’ is still neoliberal. Neoliberalism is still embedded within what we euphemistically think of as our politics. We don’t have politics. We have a scam. A con job. A racket. We have the ultra rich very few and we have the ultra poor far too many and that’s the product of face-value politics.
Check this guy out. No. Seriously. Check him out. Gary Stevenson interviewed by Jack Tame.
Gary Stevenson may be unorthodox but he just exposed the entire global financial system on live TV.

I can only imagine all the old, rich, white, Gilded Lillie Auckland parasites twirling anxiously in their 1000 count Egyptian cotton sheets right now.
My shocking takeaway was to learn that within a healthy, happy, well balanced society, multi-billionaires and multi-millionaires COULDN’T exist. If you think we have a fair and equitable society by us thus for us then you’re wrong.
Well shouldn’t it be what the voters want not what the leaders of the coalition parties want? Surely what we want counts! Yes Martyn. “A clever means to release some of the political pressure would see Labour agree to more than they want and place the more hardline policy to a ‘People’s Parliament’! It’s the voters turn now to call the shots. All current political parties have become selfishly dictatorial and are NOT listening to their voters. Time for a HUGE change of attitude and government. Kiwis have your say. We need a better NZ. We can have it, but we must demand it this election! Hipkins, I do hope you are reading this – the mood has changed.
Articles like this https://www.stuff.co.nz/politics/361034456/overseas-labour-candidate-says-hell-return-nz-if-hes-elected show how out of touch Labour are with the concerns of real workers. The Greens, TPM and maybe TOP need to get enough vote hopefully from ex National voters to force Labour into meaningful change or the next 3 years will not change much from the current situation.
