The most angering thing about the new Auckland City Rail

Nice to see Len Brown on the TVNZ coverage at the opening. He was and is a lovely guy and you forget how his jovial and optimistic persona was very endearing vs the grumpy prick we have now.
What has annoyed me most about the coverage of the rail network and its monolithic public art is the giggling that accompanies it as we laugh at the extraordinary time it took and the cost blow out.
We have been planning this for a 100 fucking years!
That it finally limps home is not a moment of celebration, it should demand genuine reflection!
How did we lose the capacity to build shit?
We need a tunnel between the North and South Island.
We need tidal generators.
We need solar and wind farms.
We need new public hospitals.
We need vastly more Civil Defence investment.
We need 50 000 new state homes to remove desperation from the rental housing market.
We need a second bridge crossing in Auckland.
Our inability to build meaningfully should embarrass us, instead we laugh it off.
Independent Media is more important than ever, especially in the lead up to the Election. TDB is the largest Left Wing Blog in NZ and we have been operating for 13 years. Left to Right: Wayne brown *earns $318,616 pa. Chris bishop *earns $320,600 pa. Chris luxon *earns $520,500 pa and all plus ‘entitlements and expenses’ of course.
* I use the word ‘earn’ advisedly.
Jesus Christ, Aucklanders go on about this thing is if it’s the shinkansen. It’s not even 4 km.
Cause we laugh it off.
The world laughs and shakes its head at New Zealand.
Apart from Trump we are the biggest joke out there.
