The legal crucification of the Treaty being rammed through Parliament right now should shame us all

How outrageous is it that in the dying days of this Government, they are ramming through legislation under urgency as controversial as stripping the Treaty out of 19 laws?
The Repeals Bill, the Standardisation Bill, and the Strength of Legislative Obligations Bill all seek to remove, limit and water down Treaty obligations minus any mandate or due process.
This was another agreement made by Luxon to Winston and begs the question how will he cope when NZF are double digits?
The Repeals Bill is simply vandalising existing legislation by cutting the Treaty out altogether.
The Standardisation Bill is attacking the Treaty via stealth.
The Crown cannot unilaterally rewrite its relationship with tangata whenua without any input from tangata whenua!
One side of a contract can’t rewrite the contract without the agreement of the other party!
Why does the Left need to keep lecturing the Right on contract law?
Te Tiriti is an agreement between Māori and the Crown. One party should not unilaterally determine how that agreement is expressed in law.
There has been no mandate from Māori for this rewriting exercise.
Standardisation treats Te Tiriti as ordinary legislative language rather than a constitutional compact.
The wider package removes Treaty provisions entirely from some legislation and weakens others.
The Waitangi Tribunal’s findings cannot simply be brushed aside here! It has recommended meaningful co-design with Māori before the reforms proceed.
Existing clauses represent decades of Māori advocacy, litigation, negotiation and political compromise. They were not accidentally written differently!
Māori rights should not depend on what a temporary parliamentary majority finds administratively convenient!
The fundamental objection is constitutional, the Crown cannot claim partnership while rewriting the terms of that partnership without its Treaty partner!
And then we have the Strength of Legislative Obligations Bill, where the Crown is unilaterally reducing its obligations to tangata whenua!
“Give effect to” requires action. “Take into account” requires consideration. That difference is fundamental.
Existing statutory protections were won through generations of Māori political action, litigation, protest and negotiation. They weren’t accidentally inserted into legislation!
The legislation transfers power away from tangata whenua and towards Ministers, officials and statutory decision-makers.
It particularly matters where decisions affect whenua, wai, taonga and natural resources, areas where Treaty rights and Crown obligations have enormous practical significance.
The Waitangi Tribunal’s concerns about meaningful engagement and partnership make proceeding regardless constitutionally significant.
This should be understood alongside the Repeals Bill, some statutory Treaty protections disappear completely while others survive in weakened form!
Ramming through controversial legislation in the dying weeks of this Government without due process or a mandate is NZ Politics at their most racist.
Hasn’t this right wing racist red neck banjo twanging cross burning Government done enough damage to Iwi/Crown relationships?
If Prime Minister Chris Luxon could barely control NZF and ACT when they were 6% and 8% – how the risen zombie Jesus will he control them at 9% and 13%?
Don’t you wish National could go back to an honourable relationship with Māoridom like Key, Like Christopher Finlayson, like Bolger, like Doug Graham rather than shitting on Māori constantly?
The legal crucification of the Treaty being rammed through Parliament right now should shame us all!

God almighty! Who the hell votes for these fiends
“How outrageous is it that in the dying days of this Government, they are ramming through legislation under urgency as controversial as stripping the Treaty out of 19 laws?” I’m an old white Southland cockie yet I think that ,is again, fucking outrageous.
NO, I don’t wish we could go back to the days of Key, Findlayson, Bolger etc. Those men did fearful damage to this country. “Te tiriti” has been inserted into all manner of places where it doesn’t belong, and I’m glad the government is doing something about it, albeit rather timidly.
More horseshit from the Pope. “Fearful damage”. Bollocks. You sound like some Trump loving hick. The fearful damage was selling off power despite a huge referendum saying otherwise.
Yes, indeed! I’m sad to see how ‘Racist’ some have become in our lovely NZ. RACISM is unfair and very hurtful! There is no valid reason for “dead eyes” Goldsmith and his CoC-up government to ram through legislation and strip the Treaty of 19 laws at this late time. Do they really believe they will gain more votes doing this?? ‘Once was Maori, Winston’ should be the one hanging his head in shame! European Kiwis are being brainwashed by this deceitful, lying, cruel CoC into believing Maori are going to take over NZ! How stupid are these people? Very stupid! Again, Maori were here ~400 years before the colonialists. This CoC action violates human rights and causes extreme harm! Are the settler stock, not satisfied with dispossessing Maori who now have less than 6% of NZ, while 56% of land is privately owned by non-indigenous people/families and corporations. So you’re not satisfied with this? You ugly, insufferable CADS! Come on New Zealanders, speak up – we all know this is horribly WRONG!
