The Kakariki MMP voting strategy between Te Pati Māori and Greens is essential this election

I’ve said it once, I’ll keep saying it.

This election is so razor close that Māori voters in the Māori electorates could be the difference.

If Te Pati Māori release their much awaited policy announcement this weekend of candidate vote TPM, Party vote Green, THAT could be the deciding factor of the 2026 election.

NO Party has ever pushed for a candidate only, Party vote someone else strategy, but it’s been sitting there waiting to be used since MMP was formed.

Māori voters in Māori electorates are the most strategic tactical voters in the Nation and with social media connecting voters to one voting strategy, this could decide the fate of the election.

I think Labour will hold Ikaroa-Rāwhiti because Cushla Tangaere-Manuel is amazing.

I think Labour will win Te Tai Tonga because Mananui Ramsden is an incredible candidate.

I think Debbie, Rawiri and Hana-Rāwhiti will all hold their seats, and I think Aperahama Edwards is another remarkable candidate who will win Te Tai Tokerau.

I think Tāmaki Makaurau will be interesting.

So TPM stand to win between 4 to 5 seats this election and if they push their supporters to party vote Green, they not any generate the MMP Overhang, they recycle their wasted party vote to the Greens, which is essential to keep the Greens above NZFirst.

Here’s why I think the Kakariki MMP voting strategy could pay enormous dividends.

The demographic changes in the Māori Electorate themselves.

Huge numbers of young Māori are registered in the Māori Electorates in such a way they change the demographic make up.

These are Māori who have grown up in Te Reo immersion and who see their identity welded onto the Māori roll.

45.6% of the Māori roll are now under the age of 40!

That is the largest demographic that appeals to Greens.

Candidates like Tania Waikato, Huhana Lyndon, Kahu Carter and Tamatha Paul connect with this age demographic.

Last election, Greens only took 10% of the Party vote in the 7 Māori Electorates, I believe if TPM comes out with a voting strategy in the Māori electorates to Candidate vote TPM and party vote Green that the Greens could end up with 30%+ of the Māori Electorates.

What Labour will lose in the Māori Electorate party vote share, they will pick up in the general electorates.

Using MMP to the Left’s advantage is the way we beat National, NZF and ACT.

A Labour/Green/TPM/TOP Government is far preferable than another term of National/ACT/NZF.

Māori voters in the Māori electorates could determine this election.

While I am still at a loss to accept, or even see, how the Right could win the 7/11 election after such an abysmal “clown show”, if that’s what it takes to get rid of this insidious CoC—up then that’s okay with me. It is not a ‘moral issue’, it is a ‘business practice’ which has been done before by the Right! However Labour, Greens and TPM must make absolutely sure they are not shooting themselves in the foot by each having a candidate in some TPM seats! The other really important issue is to stop the desperate and corrupt “tampering and removing of names” on the electoral roll. So yes, if TPM push their supporters to party vote Green, they not only generate the MMP overhang, they recycle their wasted party vote to the Greens! And don’t forget to keep checking your listing right up to the election!

    1. You constantly write how very bad the Coalition is but never explain why it is that close to 50 percent of voters want them back in charge. You discount them as greedy ,uninformed, uncaring ,racist and generally bad people . I am involved in various organizations and there are good people from both camps .Your writing is very judgemental.
