Mastermind of World Trade Centre attack to go on trial in 2028

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the alleged mastermind of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States, will go on trial before a US military court in June 2028, an official said Thursday.

The long-awaited trial of Mohammed and three other accused 9/11 plotters is scheduled to begin on June 5, 2028 at the US naval base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, a court spokesman said.

Prosecutors had requested a January 2027 date for the trial of Mohammed, Walid bin Attash, Ali Abdul Aziz Ali and Mustafa Ahmed al-Hawsawi but the presiding military judge said more time was needed to resolve pretrial disputes.

There has been a central question in this kangaroo court, and that’s how far can the State credibly use a legal system utterly at odds with the manner in which the prosecuted has been treated.

Can the state torture someone and then use that evidence against them in a. Court of Law?

That is the ultimate issue with the Khalid Sheikh Mohammed case.

He was waterboarded 183 times. He was subjected to prolonged sleep deprivation, stress positions, nudity, physical assaults, rectal rehydration and threats against his family.

The State can’t torture confessions and evidence out of a person and then use the legal system to prosecute him.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is a terrible reminder of what America is prepared to do to the individual despite being a nation of laws.
