The core ‘problem’ is the ‘western’ financial system, which creates money out of thin air and charges interest on that money; interest payments can only be maintained by continuous economic expansion -which means more consumption, more people, more conversion of the natural world into he artificial world etc.

Clearly there is no solution to such a Ponzi scheme, especially since all official institutions vigorously defend it and lie about its nature on a more-or-less continuous basis -hence the general populace is deceived into thinking Ponzi finance and Ponzi economics have validity and have a future. Even when interest rates are depressed to historically low levels or even negative, people still believe in the system!

There is also the aspect that banks and corporations now have more power than governments and decide what legislation will be discussed and when it will be implemented, e.g. TPPA.

As I see it, the looting and polluting will continue until the financial system collapses because natural resources are in severe decline or because environmental catastrophes stop the system in its tracks.

I see nothing but ignorance, deciet and cowardice within the political system, which is perhaps understandable because there is a ‘code of silence’ whereby the fundamental issues are never mentioned, and anyone who seriously challenges the power of international bankers usually literally gets assassinated soon after (Lincoln, Garfield, Kennedy, Lennon, King, Kelly etc.).

However, despite all the evidence that industrial civilisation and a future for life on Earth are mutually exclusive concepts, it is clear that nothing will be done to terminate ‘civilised’ human’s addition to fossil fuels. Motor racing, tourism, corporatized sport, mechanised fishing, golf, factory farming, more roads, bigger vehicles, ostentatious consumption and unsustainability (accompanied by obesity) almost everywhere we look…….yet this insane society still promotes and celebrates planetary destruction and destruction of its own future. The Great Barrier Reef was recently announced as being the latest notable victim of all this consume-till-you-kill-everything utter madness.

500+ppm CO2 and a 5oC+ rise in average temperature are on their way. It’s just a matter of time. And with pollution of the atmosphere now accelerating (CO2 has been rising at over 3ppm per annum, and the annual rate of increase has been increasing -how could it not when there are ever more people consuming and generating excess CO2?), 500ppm will very likely be reached in less than 30 years.
