Open Mic THURSDAY 13th AUGUST + Political Caption Competition

POLITICAL FACT OF THE DAY: William Henry Harrison gave the longest inaugural address in US history in 1841—clocking in at over 8,400 words in freezing rain—and died 31 days later from pneumonia.
POLITICAL QUOTE OF THE DAY: “Both political parties have moved to the right during the neoliberal period. Today’s New Democrats are pretty much what used to be called “moderate Republicans.” The “political revolution” that Bernie Sanders called for, rightly, would not have greatly surprised Dwight Eisenhower. The fate of the minimum wage illustrates what has been happening. Through the periods of high and egalitarian growth in the ‘50s and ‘60s, the minimum wage—which sets a floor for other wages—tracked productivity. That ended with the onset of neoliberal doctrine. Since then, the minimum wage has stagnated (in real value). Had it continued as before, it would probably be close to $20 per hour. Today, it is considered a political revolution to raise it to $15.”

POLITICAL HAIKU OF THE DAY:
Caucus knives miss Luxon
Penk is led out to slaughter
One lamb saves the flock

How often does this happen in politics? The best get shafted so the worst can continue with their wrecking ball? It’s clear, even from the photo, who the ‘feeble five’ perpetrators were but again they were too gutless to front up, choosing to save their own necks! NZ cannot risk another term under the weak, ‘out of control’ Luxon. He is worse than stupid! Totally devoid of human emotions, so very EGO-driven and all about ME, ME, ME. NZ deserves a PM who cares about the country and ALL its people, not just those with large bank accounts! The poor, embarrass Luxon and he has no idea what empathy means! “Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another person. It means putting yourself in someone else’s shoes and seeing the world through their eyes.” This CoC is so guilty of lying, cheating, deceiving and being controlled by the monied RW voters. Shame on him for his short-sightedness and lack of genuine feelings and on those who could have made a difference but chose not to rock the boat!
“That’ll do pig, that’ll do.”
