The Greens need to make a big advancement on NZ First to ensure Winston is not kingmaker. They could campaign to decriminalise cannabis for ‘grow your own 5 plants at home’ to capture the younger voters who prefer weed to booze, as well as working class and elderly med users who are unable to afford currently available licensed medical weed.
This would free up police resources to target organised crime. So it’s a win for the get tough on crime crowd as well.
Once the wider public see the benefits of decriminalisation we could look at trying full legalisation (with strict rules) and insulating against the coming recession with a legal and highly taxed green rush. After all weed will get you through times of no money much better than money will get you through times of no weed.
