Fitzpatrick had breached a no contact order by sending a text message. He should not have been in prison with a psychotic murderer.
The Government’s tougher theft laws are expected to add roughly 245 people to the prison population within five years, while Justice Ministry projections show the overall prison population climbing 35% — from 11,240 in 2026 to about 15,200 by 2036 — partly as a result of recent tougher sentencing and criminal-law changes.
New Zealand doesn’t need a crime wave to produce a prison boom. The Government has changed sentencing and theft laws so that more offenders can be imprisoned and sentences can be longer. Even theft worth $2,000 or less now carries up to a year in prison, compared with three months previously.
In the words of the Ministry of Justice when responding to the Sentencing Reform Act and Crimes Amendment:, “more people will receive prison sentences, and for longer terms.”
Why ram people into an underfunded prison network for being homeless or shoplifting or needlessly punitive sentences?
Only an underfunded prison network would put a violent psychopath in with someone imprisoned for sending a text message.
In NZ, we don’t want justice, we want suffering.

Redemption and the attempt at rehabilitation are weak when we want punishment.
We are building a prison empire of petty thieves and pettier criminals and they will feed the angrier violence of institutionalised monsters.
It’s bizarre that we are lowing the crime thresholds to capture more shoplifters while it is open slather for organised crime importing Meth.
The Police did not comprehend the distortion in the domestic crime scene that importing thousands of 501s would create.
The Australian underworld is far more violent and criminally sophisticated than NZ organised crime and when 501 syndicates realised how soft the NZ crime scene was, they started taking over turf while importing cheaper more pure meth from their South American cartels.
Compounding this problem is the advance of Chinese shadow banking which creates the financial infrastructure for 501 syndicates to buy the meth directly from South American Cartels.
China operate grey-zone warfare in the Pacific by flooding the islands with Meth, this is the real reason the FBI have a Wellington base now.

The FBI is much like the Usa Govt and their ‘war on drugs’,,, meaning they are corrupt, hypocritical and worse than useless judging on what they have achieved fighting Americas drug problem…. If NZ gets the FBI drug war ‘results’ then the price of meth will tumble and users will now be offered some cheap Fentanyl to help with the come down from all that low priced meth being consumed.

The FBI do not stem the flow of drugs or actions of ( rich ) pedophiles ,,,, they help manage the flow of punishment, so maybe poor Maori in Nothland and other places better watch out ,,,.
