National’s Choices Drive Unemployment Higher – Labour
Unemployment has risen to 5.6 percent, a damning verdict on Christopher Luxon’s economic management.
“Christopher Luxon promised he would grow the economy, create jobs, and lower the cost of living. Instead, unemployment continues to rise and Kiwis are paying the price,” Labour finance and economy spokesperson Barbara Edmonds said.
“Under National unemployment is at an 11-year high. Today’s figures show there are 171,000 New Zealanders out of work – more than the entire population of Tauranga. That’s 48,000 more since National took office.
“Behind every unemployment statistic is a person who wants to work, a family worried about paying the bills, and a community feeling the impact. That’s the real cost of National’s economic choices.
“Young people are being hit hard with too many unable to get the first job they need to start their careers.
“Christopher Luxon can keep telling New Zealanders the economy is turning a corner, but if you’ve lost your job, can’t find work, or worried you’ll be next, you know that simply isn’t true.
“Māori and Pasifika communities continue to bear the brunt of National’s failure, with unemployment remaining significantly higher than the national average at 10.8% and 11.6%.
“National can’t claim success when their choices have deliberately made things worse. They cut thousands of public sector jobs, cancelled major infrastructure projects, and scrapped investment that supported business and innovation.
“Labour is focused on real ways to grow our economy and get more Kiwis back into work,” Barbara Edmonds said.
Everything National et al touch, turns to custard! Luxon and Willis can’t get anything Right, just RW! As Gordon Walker has pointed out, if we add those who have fled NZ to the unemployed, the outcome would be far worse. Nothing of significance that this CoC promised has made any difference to the plight of the homeless, starving and desperate Kiwis who just want a roof over their heads, 3 square meals a day, and the ability to pay their bills. Is that too much to ask for when the wealthy continue to line their pockets every chance they get. This govt. has been guilty of propping up the already ‘sorted’ by ‘ripping off’ those most in need. How come this horrid CoC refuses to acknowledge this? And please CoC and our slack media, stop BS us that the economy has or is turning a corner. We all know that’s wishful thinking and will NEVER HAPPEN under what we have in power now. CoC STOP DESTROYING OUR LOVELY NZ!
