National shouldn’t stop at free cervical screening – Labour

Labour welcomes the Government finally making cervical screening free for all women, but it shouldn’t stop there.

“Free cervical screening will help remove a cost barrier and save lives, and we welcome the Government finally taking up Labour’s policy,” Labour health spokesperson Dr Ayesha Verrall said.

“But, why stop there? National should go further and take up Labour’s other health policies – give people three free GP visits a year, free maternity scans and free prescriptions.

“Making healthcare more affordable ensures problems are caught early, whānau stay healthier, and hospitals are there when they matter most.

“Rather than arbitrary cuts to the public service, National should also be guaranteeing every graduate nurse a job in our public health system like Labour.

“Labour has a plan to make healthcare more affordable and accessible. Simeon Brown has been missing in action as Health Minister, we’re more than happy to take over that responsibility after 7 November,” Dr Ayesha Verrall said.
