Govt ministers should be an elected MP and directly responsible for various depts, no " operational policy" nonsense as an excuse for poor or non delivery. The private sector is useless at managing critical infrastructure, but vested interests keep pushing the neoliberal regime.

If that’s what it takes to rid us of these neoliberal buffoons the appeal is obvious – but NZ would soon experience what the rest of NZ feels about Auckland – being ignored for trendier political favourites.

NZ’s path to wealth is not foreign benefactors rescuing us like Cinderella’s good fairy, but hard work.

Neither National nor Labour have done any in their lives, so they can hardly imagine the way, much less be examples of it. Mineral assets characterize poor countries, so much that economists talk about The Resource Curse. The wealth of a country is in its people, their productive capacity. Which is why free education was clever, and student loans are stupid.

NZ will be wealthy again, once we have whole people in charge again, not these ill-made misers and single issue activists. Which is to say NZ will be wealthy again, when we earn it.

They (“government”) need to consider what they said no to which helped lead to this dismal situation.

More nonsensical rhetoric, clearly those leaving said no to his “opportunities”.

Mining comparisons between here and Australia are deluded. Instead of bemoaning “activists” he should consider how beneficial the lobbyists he serves are for the public.

This country has a “finance minister” who can be mistaken for being merely a motivational speaker. Like this speech everyone else is at fault for not thinking positively. Unsurprising if you’re facing deteriorating conditions and not in a privileged bubble. One can find economic commentary also in this vein.

His “opportunities”: no novel far-sighted solutions, yes to short term scrapping the bottom of the barrel. The best this lot can achieve is embarrassment.

This is the party whose claims of economic expertise are so risible they have eroded public trust in experts.

This is the party who are such economic ass-clowns they can’t produce 3% growth one quarter in twelve, much less a sustained average. They are so useless they consistently lose that contest to the actual ass-clowns.

This is the party who, having absolutely failed due to cult-like belief in austerity, are touting a ‘cleansing recession’ – certainly a more realistic goal than growth under their mind-bendingly stupid contractionary policies during a recession.
