US aid to overseas countries also benefits US agriculture and it is proof of the stupidity of the Republican voters that they support the Trump's actions that will harm them.
United States agriculture regularly produces surpluses that cannot be consumed in the USA. This happens because US growers are paid generous subsidies - so overproduction does not matter because the income of farmers will not reduce as a result.
What to do with the surplus grain? Export it to third world countries as aid. It can be given away because US taxpayers have already paid for it.
What happens if this food aid stops? Will US agriculture subsidies continue? How will the cosseted Republican heartland feel about the withdrawal of both subsidies and cheap, migrant labour?
