I have cycled for most of my adult life. Two rules: Ride to the conditions/environment. Show respect to ALL around you. Can’t go wrong.
This means not racing along Wellington waterfront and passing people within 1 metre at speed. This really pisses me off as a pedestrian. As a cyclist I observe 1 metre or slow to walking pace if the area is well peopled.
Yes the worst offenders are probably drivers who cycle.

What types are these Denny Paoa? Presumably “those woke middle-class wankas”. Says it all, eh. Talk about unconscious bias (or is that conscious bias). And FYI some middle class wankas don’t own a car and more, do their very best to minimize their carbon footprint in a myriad other ways. But shit, no one is perfect. And granted, no doubt your bias captures a good many. Its the generalization I don’t appreciate.

As a driver – i thank you for not adding to your cities congestion
As a cyclist – i dont ride on my cities roads, because my kids wont allow me to.
so in my car – i am the traffic.
Sunday was an exception – What a brilliant day. Like a couple of thousand other of our cityfolk – im still buzzing from the most positive Auckland experience I’ve ever had.
