Luxon would prefer to throw out our entire political system rather than hold Winston to account
Just consider what we are actually witnessing in real time right now.
The Prime Minister of NZ, during a flippant question over MMP, has on the hoof agreed to a referendum that will rob NZ of representative Government in favour of the First Past the Post hierarchy of privileges, RATHER than hold Winston to account.
That is as extraordinary as Winston starting a diplomatic fight with our largest trading partner to justify his racism towards Green MP Lawrence Xu-Nan.
How on earth is any of this acceptable?
Luxon is being held hostage by Winston all the way to the election.
You can’t have a situation whereby the Foreign Minister is contradicting the Prime Minister in such enormous ways.
Luxon looks weaker and Winston looks unhinged.
The only circuit breaker would be if ACT called them on this fiasco and go to the Polls early as a political stunt of strength.
What happens if National, ACT and NZF do get returned, but with a much weaker National Party and a much stronger NZF and ACT?
Luxon has been hamstrung for his entire term by Winston and Seymour, if they are returned stronger, this freak show gets way freakier!

In the ’90s Winston Peters went around the country making speeches attacking Asian immigrants.
In the lead-up to the 1996 election, Winston Peters campaigned on repelling the “Asian Invasion”. and “non-traditional” immigrants, using rhetoric that commentators and historians widely characterized as racist.
During this same period, reports of racial tension and violence toward Asian communities surfaced.
Winston Peters and his supporters focused on the rising numbers of East Asian migrants, which fed into broader xenophobic narratives.
Winston Peters issued a statement calling New Zealand “the last Asian colony”, saying that the country will soon be “unrecognisable”.
Building on the commonly held racist trope that Asians ate cats, in June 2,000, Winston Peters issued a controversial press release titled “Winston to the Rescue of Man’s Best Friend,”. Winston Peters claimed that Saint Bernards and other dogs in New Zealand were being farmed by “Asian dog farmers” for overseas meat markets.
Peters writes:
“I wrote to the Prime Minister some weeks ago expressing my disgust at the practice of eating dog flesh and the cruel and barbaric methods used in some countries to kill the dogs, allegedly to increase the aphrodisiac qualities of the meat.
“I have also written to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade seeking to have the exporting of Saint Bernards and other similar large breeds of dogs, suspected of being killed for human consumption, placed on the agenda of United Nations meeting in New York next month.” Winston Peters, JUNE 2,000
Winston Peters did not present any proof for his claims.
No official evidence, police reports, or industry records from the 1990s or 2000s ever showed that Asian immigrants were farming dogs for meat in New Zealand. Groups like the New Zealand Kennel Club dismissed the claims as completely ungrounded
During the 1990s, Newspapers and community publications documented an uptick in visible anti-Asian sentiment, including verbal harassment and reports of racist attacks in public spaces. Asian migrants from that era have stated that Winstop Peters political rhetoric contributed to an environment where hostility and everyday racism felt normalized in public life
Prime Minister Luxon admitted that Winston Peters is a racist.
New Zealand must be the only country in the world with a Foreign Minister, acknowedged as being a racist, by the country’s Prime Minister
Peters is not unhinged, he is playing the same political game he has played for the last three decades – create imaginary enemies all around and promise everyone he can deliver them from evil. He has simply adapted his methods to suit the current political climate which is not to be empathetic but to be a nasty bastard. He is the supreme political wind tactician, whichever way the wind turns he will go with it with no reference to what he has done before.
MMP in its current form with its current rules is a fuck up. Imagine your side, the left, gets a clean 50% plus majority so they can do good things with that mandate. MMP needs two changes immediately: 1. party with most votes gets 1st right to make the govt. No more Winston stunts with Jacinda. 2. Fuck the list MP rort…no list, just 1 or 2 ‘special’ additions per party on top of seat they won. eg. Sport expert or science minister or medical minister.
We all need to seriously ask the question, are Peters and Luxon both unhinged, playing a childish game that neither of them can win because neither of them is smart enough! The NZ RW can’t be serious if they allow NZ to continue down this very slippery slope to oblivion! A big break is necessary for us to bring in a fair taxation system and increase the wages for our workers – without increasing those above [!]; make sure there are sufficient state owned homes for the workers who will never be able to repay a mortgage and/or are not well enough to work; plus heal our nation which is very badly damaged and hurting after this vile CoC have sucked all the life from it to feed the already wealthy “greedies”. Whatever the outcome of the election, I believe most of us can actually see that there is no way we can continue on this self-destructive path any longer! Luxon has proved to not be ‘fit for purpose’ while Winston is just plain spiteful. Not a good union. In the meantime Seymour is stuck in the middle, where he belongs!
The economic justice issue does undoubtably reasonate for voters but I would argue that social justice in the whole is unseparable from economic justice so we need both. More and, less or.

This is the MMP system beloved by many here.
It empowers the Winston Peters-type showmen who gamble with the government continuing to the election.
The minority-representation argument for MMP also applies to the racists, the conspiracy freaks, anti-vaxxers, the retired, and the anxious regional volk. WP is their champion and MMP puts him in charge of choosing the government.
Either way, maybe you’re right, but it’s less of a freakshow than a combo of LabGreenTPMTOP. Do you ever sit back and picture it as day to day government, Martyn? If you think that will work out well, you are seriously deluded. The mere idea of that coalition is cringeworty. The repercussions of some of their policies will collapse the NZ economy, which will impact the affordability of the handout culture we have going here in NZ.

Borrow more, build nothing, increase unemployment, try and accelerate public healthcare decline by underfunding it, and now build an LNG terminal that is universally panned as a f’ing stupid idea.
