If the Prime Minister admits what his Foreign Minister has said is racist, then why is he keeping him on?
Is National really saying that racism is more acceptable than sexism?

A senior figure in New Zealand First’s youth wing has been linked to a neo-Nazi group and online accounts that praised Adolf Hitler, an investigation by The Press has found.
Nicholas Newport, 23, was named as a member of the executive of Young New Zealand First in late 2024, and last month spoke at the party’s national convention.
Under a former name, Nicholas Wells, he appeared at two protests involving far-right activists and was linked to accounts expressing support for the National Socialist Network (NSN), an Australian neo-Nazi organisation that later rebranded as White Australia. The Australian Government designated White Australia a prohibited hate group in May…..

New Zealand must be the only country in the world with a Foreign Minister who who has been acknowledged as a racist by the leader of the government he represents, and still keep his position.

Fanning the flames of racism, for political advantage, Winston Peters is damaging New Zealand’s reputation on the world stage.
He is not fit to be Foreign Minister.
In the ’90s Winston Peters went around the country making speeches attacking Asian immigrants, following Peters racist tirades Asian people reported getting physically attacked in the street by random strangers.
In the lead-up to the 1996 election, Winston Peters campaigned on repelling the “Asian Invasion”. and “non-traditional” immigrants, using rhetoric that commentators and historians widely characterized as racist. During this same period, reports of racial tension and violence toward Asian communities surfaced.
Winston Peters and his supporters focused on the rising numbers of East Asian migrants, which fed into broader xenophobic narratives.
Winston Peters issued a statement calling New Zealand “the last Asian colony”, while warning the country will soon be “unrecognisable”.
Building on the common racist trope that Asians eat cats, Winston Peters issued a controversial press release titled “Winston to the Rescue of Man’s Best Friend,” claiming that Saint Bernards and other dogs in New Zealand were being targeted by “Asian dog farmers” for overseas meat markets.
“I wrote to the Prime Minister some weeks ago expressing my disgust at the practice of eating dog flesh and the cruel and barbaric methods used in some countries to kill the dogs, allegedly to increase the aphrodisiac qualities of the meat.
“I have also written to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade seeking to have the exporting of Saint Bernards and other similar large breeds of dogs, suspected of being killed for human consumption, placed on the agenda of United Nations meeting in New York next month. Winston Peters
Winston Peters did not present verified proof for his claims. No official evidence, police reports, or industry records from the 1990s or 2000s ever showed that Asian immigrants were farming dogs for meat in New Zealand. Groups like the New Zealand Kennel Club dismissed the claims as completely ungrounded
Newspapers and community publications during the 1990s documented an uptick in visible anti-Asian sentiment, including verbal harassment and reports of racist attacks in public spaces. Asian migrants from that era have stated that Winstop Peters political rhetoric contributed to an environment where hostility and everyday racism felt normalized in public life
Now he is at it again.

… Lao Pi is like that grumpy neighbour everyone knows is a problem.
Except he’s not a random neighbour. He is the foreign affairs minister and former deputy prime minister. He represents New Zealand on the global stage, and he’s in a position to make decisions for this country. He’s in a position to embolden racial abuse and violence, a violence many of us first met as children.
“Go back to your own country” brings back childhood memories. As children, my sister and I heard it from strangers on the streets, and from moving cars. This taunt is rarely, if ever, directed at white immigrants….
….Watching Winston Peters shout at Lawrence, his face seemed like the face of every person who has yelled the same words at migrants of colour, repeating the same racist imperative.
It is the face of a society that has enabled and normalised racism. It is old skin that refuses to shed.
If this racial harassment and abuse were to happen in any other workplace, there would be ample grounds for dismissal. The rōpū I am part of, Asians Supporting Tino Rangatiratanga, is calling for Winston Peters to be removed from parliament….
The Pacific is a tinder box, we don’t need Winston Peters pouring petrol on the flames.
China is test firing missiles into our region. We should not be giving them any incentive to keep doing it.
If we want the Chinese to take our protest seriously, we to send a message to Beijing that we are not their enemy.
Sacking Peters would be the most powerul message we could send.
Peters must be made to step down as Foreign Minister.
The Minister of the baubles of Oficce will not go without a fight. The first class travel, the luxury hotels, the glittering diplomatic functions, will hard to for him to give up.

Lawrence Xu-Nan wasn’t telling a lie he was asking a question.
You can bet that Winston Peters is fully vaccinated, he just doesn’t want his feral far-right conspiracy theorist constituency to know it.
The Power imbalance
What if Lawrence Xu-Nan had said to Winston Peters:
Go back to your own Marae. That’s where they lie like a flatfish, but they don’t lie like that here, all right?
It likely would have made world headlines as well and Lawrence Xu-Nan would have been expelled from parliament, and rightly so.
But Winston Peters can get away with being as racist as he likes because he is backed by the Prime Minister and the Speaker.
The Luxon and Brownlee are not weak. They are complicit.
Racism is OK if it one of them do it.
Under parliamentary rules an MP is not allowed to directly call another MP a liar.
The reason for this rule, is that all MPs operate under parliamentary privilege. This means that they can’t be sued for making false or defamatory claims.
Winston Peters as well as attacking MP Lawrence Xu-Nan’s integrity and loyalty to this country accused all Chinese of lying like a flatfish, calling Lawrence Xu-Nan a liar by inference.
Lawrence Xu-Nan should challenge Winston Peters to repeat his accusation that he is a liar outside of parliament, Peters won’t because, he knows that outside of Parliament he can be sued for defamation, inside of parliament he is sprotected by parliamentary privilege and has the backing of the Prime Minister and the Speaker.

How can Luxon sack him as winston has been his attack dog against Maori for the last 3 years .I find it odd that he now calls him racist .
Sorry I have to laugh at Luxon admitting Winston is racist! Isn’t that the ‘pot calling the kettle black’? Luxon is just as ‘racist’ which is well illustrated by what HE and his fellow politicians SAY and DO. To denigrate your indigenous folk is appalling behaviour – such a shame Luxon et al don’t have the brains to work out that it’s not a pretty path to be going down and one on which they will reap what they have sown! If coloured skin is so unpalletable then why are so many spending hours ‘baking’ their bodies at the gym or in the sun? The idea that European settlers were inherently superior, or had a rightful claim to dominate indigenous peoples, is a false and harmful concept rooted in historical scientific racism and colonial power structures. This mindset was used to justify the taking of land, the suppression of native cultures, and systemic oppression. Think about it – why should anyone feel superior just because they inhereted white skin? Quite a stupid assumption isn’t it and shows exactly what sort of ‘hollow shells’ they really are?

Luxon should rule out having Winston Peters as a Minister in his cabinet following the election unless he apologises for his comments.
Winstone wants to be sacked. Luxon knew that and has rightly brushed this off and not added fuel to the fire. Winnie wanted to be a martyr and feed on the hatred toward migrants that a portion of our society has.

While I would close all “liquor” stores the intent of your comment points out a valid problem as certain groups take control of various sectors of the economy. The strong devouring the weak is inevitable with unregulated capitalism and the current government is not interested in giving everyone a fair go.
