Labour, Greens pull out of Taxpayers’ Union debates following Nicky Hager book
Green Party co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick says her party will no longer participate in a series of electorate debates hosted by the Taxpayers’ Union, following a new book about the lobby group by Nicky Hager.
A spokesperson for Labour said they had pulled out as well.
The book, which Hager styles as the third in a trilogy focused on the political right, focuses on the right-wing Taxpayers’ Union.
Hager accuses the group of engaging in race-based campaigning to push New Zealand to the right, in particular through its Stop Three Waters campaign.

…so National, ACT and NZF will be the only parties appearing?
It will be the idealogical equivalence of one hand clapping.
National should show some basic civic decency and pull out as well.
The boycott by Labour, Greens & TPM will look more damaging than enabling them.
The immediate impact of Hager’s ‘Dirty Work’ will be a pulling away from the Taxpayers’ Union by the mainstream media.
Outside Heather Du Plessis-Allan’s 4pm Huddle on ZB, Jordan Williams, David Farrar, Tax Payers’ Union, Campaign Company, Free Speech Union, Hobson’s Pledge, Ani O’Brien, and Groundswell will be too radioactive for mainstream media now.
Even The Country channel and will be leery of being too closely associated with them.
They will be locked into a media doom loop of Shubz Podcasts, Cameron Slater Podcasts, Family First Podcasts, Billy Brown Podcasts, front page of the Herald, Duncan Garner Podcasts, Jay Jay Feeney Podcasts back to Shubz Podcasts.
Surely co-host of the Taxpayers’ Union Debate, Anna Lorck must stand down now as well?
She is a former Labour MP, how could she in good conscience remain on as a co-host of an organisation that profited from racism.
If Anna resigns, then the Debate series will be bleeding in the water.
It’s time to pick sides not sit on fences.
Nicky Hager will be appearing on The Bradbury Group on Tuesday.

Good move, Greens and Labour pulling out of the TU’s debates. We must be grateful to Nicky Hager for exposing this politically twisted ‘organisation’! Hopefully it will disintegrate, as it should, and its ‘Sister’ company Hobson’s Pledge will follow suit! Unfortunately that will still leave us with Atlas, NZ Initiative, Groundswell and the RW aligned Free Speech Union, originally founded partly by Jordan Williams – he from TU – need we say more? They all seem to thrive and function on Hate, Spite, Racism, Power and Greed and have no empathy or kindness for those struggling just to make ends meet. It’s not because they aren’t working the hours, it’s because their wages are way below inflation and even further below the ‘haves’! This CoC must go – it is more than cosied up with these insidious, dishonest organisations.
