…but they said that was it, no other benefits had been cut. And then they found out that actually 30 000 benefits had been cut and the Minister refused to apologise again…
…but then she was shamed into apologising…
Louise Upston apologises after benefits wrongly suspended in second MSD error
Social Development Minister Louise Upston has apologised for a “significant problem” after some people’s benefits were wrongly suspended, saying it is “extremely unsatisfactory”.
The benefit payments were incorrectly stopped following a law change that was rushed through Parliament last year.
The new law requires some beneficiaries to re-confirm their circumstances at least once every 52 weeks, to check whether they are still eligible.

…remember, they cut 30 000 beneficiaries from welfare because of a rushed piece of legislation they rammed through misusing urgency.
National have punished the most vulnerable amongst us to weapons MSD and WINZ against the people they are obliged to help.
This after MSD was caught telling 8000 that food was not a necessity.
Could you imagine the outage if Labour had rammed through legislation without due process that resulted in 30 000 beneficiaries losing their benefit?

Its been slowly removed after the assault of the free market and dog eat dog neoliberal consensus.
Most are just trying to keep from being dragged into destitution to be concerned about their fellow Kiwis freezing and starving due to the cruelty and inhumane actions of the plutocracy of the current regime.
The ‘Let them eat cake!’ mentality. After three, yes 3 ugly fast-track / knee-jerk decisions from Upston, which resulted in people not getting their just dues, she is still an MP! She had to be pushed each time to apologise. It defies belief. Had Labour done even one of these, the media would have been so over it and the Minister would have been sacked! We have such double standards in NZ – they are so unfair and so damned biased. Media you are to blame. Take off your RW hats and start to report correct information, latest news etc. WITHOUT BIAS! The LW did a much better job in their six years, borrowed less, pulled us all through the Covid pandemic and kept the economy ticking on. Come election time, the ungrateful went for Jacinda’s head and these male and female trolls are still banging on!!! People are so fickle – had the Labour govt. not introduced strict Covid mandates you would all have lost a loved one! Think about it in a logical way instead of being so damned spiteful. Her book is humble, humane and so very honest. If you don’t like it, don’t read it – simple! The Left have genuine Ministers who wish to fight for their voters, while the Right have Ministers who are only interested in promoting their own interests!

roger douglas was labour’s two term minister of finance. It was he, and labour of the time, who rammed neoliberalism down our throats and up our arses. Now here’s the kicker, as U$A ‘merica world police might say. NOTHING has changed so we’re still neoliberal, and it’s hiding the ghastly fact that our ‘economy’s ‘ fucked and is getting more fuckeder as we go ever more broke.
