Israeli troops force families from homes amid settler terror campaign in West Bank
Israeli troops have forced two Palestinian families to leave their besieged West Bank homes, the day after a top Israeli commander personally promised he would end a violent settler campaign to drive them out.
Israeli soldiers also took over eight other homes in Qusra early on Thursday, telling the village’s mayor, Abdul Azim Wadi, that the buildings were needed for a days-long operation to remove the settlers. They later relinquished six. Settlers still roam the village.
The Palestinians’ ordeal began on Sunday when Israeli settlers and soldiers set up a tent blocking the entrance to three homes on the edge of the village. They severed water and electricity supplies and prevented an ambulance from reaching a sick toddler.
Amid mounting international pressure over the siege, Maj Gen Avi Bluth, who commands all Israeli troops in the occupied West Bank, visited Qusra on Wednesday to meet the trapped Palestinians and committed to “evacuate” the settlers from the village.

Travel bans on extremist Israeli settlers
New Zealand is joining partners including Australia and the European Union in placing travel bans on three extremist Israeli settlers, Foreign Minister Winston Peters says.
“These travel bans are targeted at three individuals who have actively worked to expand illegal settlements in the West Bank, including through violence,” Mr Peters says.
“The actions of these individuals threaten peace and security for Israelis and Palestinians and drive the region further into crisis.”
The three individuals receiving bans from travelling to New Zealand are: Itamar Yehuda Levi; Harel David Libi; and Eliav Libi.

Plan to guard notorious Israeli prison with crocodiles stalled over animal welfare concerns
A legal battle has erupted in Israel over a government plan to build a moat around a prison and fill it with crocodiles.
The plan, first proposed by the country’s far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir late last year, had largely flown under the radar in recent months until an animal welfare group launched a challenge.
On Sunday, local time, the Jerusalem District Court announced a temporary injunction preventing the Israel Prison Service (IPS) from deploying Nile crocodiles to the notorious Ketziot Prison.
The facility is in a remote part of the Negev Desert, close to the Egyptian border in Israel’s south, and houses many Palestinian prisoners, including some who were involved in Hamas’s deadly 7 October 2023 attacks against Israel. Soon after the injunction was ordered, Ben-Gvir took to social media to accuse the Israeli courts of siding with terrorists.
