I think it is impossible to stop the biosphere tipping points we are confronted with now which will see vast areas incapable of advanced civilisation.
The climate refugees will swamp many places wealthy enough to adapt.
Look at the heat waves we are dealing with.
According to Scientists, this will be the coolest Summers we will remember as the planet gets hotter and hotter and hotter.
Where do you think that is going to manifest?

I think the NZ Political spectrum will shatter.
I think the young will punish us for doing sweet fuck all to prepare for what is coming.

The planet will survive us. It’s been a snowball, and it’s been hit by meteors. It’s had three ice ages. Humanity has existed in a relatively balmy short period of time called the interglacial. This period was going to change naturally anyway, but thanks to human technology things are happening much more rapidly and we and all life that exists in these conditions goes with us once the climate becomes too extreme for us to exist in. We will just be a blip in the life of the Earth. Take heart, we are definitely not murdering the planet. We are destroying a habitat for us tho. And all the other plants and creatures that live alongside us.

One day, maybe not that far off, when people in this country are dying by the hundreds every year due to climate degradation, New Zealanders will demand a reckoning. By then it may be too late to undo the harm, but the public will want justice for those most responsible for it.

Let’s start adding their names to a publicly updated permanent register, in preparation for the inevitable coming Nuremberg Climate Trials. We will agree to take alleged climate harm perpetrators names off the register if they agree to reverse their actions that are murdering the planet. Top of the list in this country: Shane Jones for his relentless and merciless advocacy for the fossil fuel industry
Number two, and three, Fonterra’s Group Director, Simon Tucker, and Z Energy CEO Lindis Jones. for lobbying Christopher Luxon’s office to get the government to protect them from climate harm litigation.
Number four, and five, Christopher Luxon and Paul Goldsmith for getting government to stop the climate harm litigation court case at Simon Tucker’s and Lindis’ Jone’s bidding.
I am sure that our readers can think of many other names to add to the register for the inevitable coming Nuremburg Climate Trials.

. The activist suing major New Zealand emitters over climate change damage says a law change blocking his case and others like it is “an affront to democracy”.
The government announced on Tuesday it would amend climate laws to prevent companies from being sued over damage caused by greenhouse gas emissions. Justice Minister Paul Goldsmith said it would apply to current and future cases – stopping a landmark case against Fonterra and five other major emitters in its tracks….
…. The hearing, which was sent back to the High Court, was due to start in April next year….
….[Mike] Smith told Nine to Noon the government’s decision was unprecedented and outrageous. “It’s an affront to democracy,” he said. “If Parliament can cancel a live court case, then no legal claim is secure at all, once it becomes politically inconvenient.”…
… Greenpeace labelled the change a “shocking abuse of power” that would protect climate polluters from paying for the damage they had caused….
“People will have their right to go to court removed. “They intervened mid-case. It is an outrageous overreach.”

#Breaking: The Prime Minister’s chief policy adviser used his personal email to receive lobbying material from the country’s biggest climate polluters, keeping it off the public record. Fonterra and Z Energy lobbied to kill the Smith v Fonterra climate case. Two years later, the Government is doing exactly that. The document that mapped it out never showed up in the OIA responses. Those lobbyists got their way last month, when the Government announced it would change the law to protect corporate polluters from legal responsibility for their emissions. It’s now clear the Prime Minister’s office hasn’t been honest about the extent of industry influence. Fonterra and Z Energy, two of the country’s biggest climate polluters, can turn up with secret hard-copy briefings and all but rewrite the law in backroom deals. Rules for you and me, but not for them.
They may be above the law now, but the clock is running out for them. One day justice will cry out.
