  1. “They died for New Zealand” can be taken literally. They died in the effort to secure their own private piece of it. That is the essence of colonialist “patriotism”. They “love New Zealand” and what to grab as much of it as they can. “Pusillanimous” is hardly adequate to describe the stupid, selfish arrogance of the colonialist psyche.
The percentage of foreign born residents is indeed a good metric of colonization, and as you have demonstrated it is now close to a historical maximum. There are of course other ways of assessing how far the Realm of New Zealand has regressed towards being a strictly colonialist entity over the past half century: the economy (dominance of foreign capital, de-industrialization, reversion to being “the farm of the empire”), foreign policy (return to the status quo of 1947, at which time a foreign power officially dictated New Zealand foreign policy), the British monarchy (restoration of the royal honors system, rejection of proposals for a national flag)… The list goes on and on. New Zealand colonialism’s tentative mid-twentieth century moves towards independence have collapsed. The reversion to a strictly colonialist entity is well-nigh complete, and would be complete if ACT and NZF got their way.
But that does not mean that the colonialist regime itself is in good shape. Far from it. It is in an economic and political crisis which invites a revolutionary response.
This tangata tiriti nonsense must be called out as offensive to both Maori and Pakeha. It implies that Maori consented to mass immigration – they never have – and that the rights of non-Maori are through the grace of the British Crown and therefore conditional on the whims of the Crown. It marks all non-Maori as flunkies of the colonialist regime.
We have to reject the tangata tiriti categorization because in order to finally destroy colonialism and fully restore rangatiratanga, it is necessary to separate non-Maori from the colonial regime and give them status within rangatiratanga. This is not just to be fair-minded. It is to demographic realism. Tangata whenua were defeated in the nineteenth century Wars of Resistance because of their failure to act in full unison. In the revolution against colonialism, Maori and Pakeha will need to unite under the roof of rangatiratanga.

  2. This government, and the presumptive Labour one in waiting are still prone to magical thinking – that either brown migrants or itinerant billionaires will rebuild essential infrastructure that they imagine they can avoid – an irresponsibility floated by ACT and embraced by both major parties at great cost to the nation.

It will not fly, and it is imbecilic to pretend that it might.

  3. With the underfunding of infrastructure, going back decades, there shouldnt even be a “discussion” about immigration, unless the governments of the future plan on building infrastructure for future generations, and no I am not talking about fucking roads, then the concept of Nrew Zealand in its present “no holds barred, let ’em all in” free market approach to “building” a society, is doomed to fail.
