Fauci and the Covid questions America and China don’t want asked

Fauci takes the Fifth more than 100 times — and Republicans look to contempt charge

Dr. Anthony Fauci spent decades nurturing his reputation as the government’s most recognizable, most accessible and often most voluble authority on the nation’s public health crises.

But on Wednesday, under intense scrutiny and the ever-present threat of prosecution, Fauci spent a congressional hearing that spanned well over two hours uttering only a single, 24-word sentence: “Under the advice of my attorneys, I will invoke my right under the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution to refrain from answering your questions.”

The retired government scientist, who guided the US Covid-19 pandemic response across two administrations, invoked his constitutional right against self-incrimination more than 100 times throughout a high-profile and often-contentious hearing that Republicans had hoped would open him up to claims of perjury.

I don’t care about what Fauci wrote in his diary.

Framing him as a shallow celebrity chaser is ugly.

I think Fauci did an incredible job up against a population that divided itself by politics not science.

I think the way Republicans are mauling Fauci for policy Trump enabled is ridiculous.

However.

There are major issues on the record that actually do need attention and unfortunately for all of us, they are questions that neither America nor China want asked.

…that article is so damning and so dangerously close to what may have actually happened it demands investigation.

The timeline

• 2014: NIH/NIAID awarded EcoHealth Alliance a grant to study the risk of bat coronavirus emergence. EcoHealth subcontracted part of the work to the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV).
• 2014–2019: The EcoHealth/WIV work was conducted under that grant. The experiments included creating chimeric coronaviruses and testing their ability to infect human cells and laboratory mice.
• 2016–2017: Some of the controversial chimeric-virus experiments reported in the grant’s work occurred during this period.
• 2018–2019: EcoHealth’s reporting shows additional coronavirus work at WIV, including experiments involving SARS-related bat coronaviruses.
• 2018: U.S. embassy and consulate officials sent official diplomatic cables in January and April 2018 warning Washington about safety and management weaknesses at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV)
• October 2019: The EcoHealth grant was suspended by NIH. However, the precise status of the WIV work after this point is complicated because of reporting delays and the disputed grant documentation.
• November 2019: The earliest known COVID-like illnesses are generally placed around this period, although the exact date of the first human infection remains uncertain. American intelligence officers knew a new contagion was sweeping Wuhan in November but they couldn’t get the message through to the top,
• December 2019: Wuhan hospitals began seeing patients with unexplained pneumonia; the outbreak was subsequently identified as a novel coronavirus.
• January 2020: China publicly announced the discovery of the new coronavirus and its genome.

If Covid was an accidental lab leak created with American funding inside a compromised Chinese lab, neither America or China would want that known.
