Count Binface trashes Farage and shows us how to mock racist NZ First

Nigel Farage wins Clacton byelection in contest boycotted by other main parties

Nigel Farage has seen off Count Binface to win the Clacton byelection in a contest boycotted by every other major political party.

The Reform UK leader in July triggered the byelection in an attempt to shake off a deepening scandal over a £5m gift he received from the cryptocurrency billionaire Christopher Harborne.

After a campaign in which a record-breaking 34 candidates vied for the coastal seat, Farage held on to Clacton, with 22,239 votes (63.34%). Farage increased his general election vote by just over 1,000 ballots, despite a lower turnout but without any competition from the major parties.

His nearest competitor, Count Binface, a parody candidate dressed as an intergalactic rubbish bin, won 9,455 votes (26.93%). The turnout was 44%. The result was not as seismic for Farage as some polls had predicted.

I love Count Binface.

He has shown us how to deal with racist scum.

You mock the fuckers.

For too long we on the Left have tried to engage in good faith debate with the global rise in alt-Right hate and that has failed.

What Count Binface showed us however is mockery is a far better tool than good faith debate.

This election, NZFirsts’ radioactive toxicity pushed by their cavalcade of political circus freaks deserves a level of mockery that never relents.

You deal with racists not by trying to engage with their hateful logic, you deal to them with scathing mockery.

Sure the stoical media hate algorithms will lift NZF vote, but at an enormous cost to anyone else near them

We have a pretty understated political satire presence here in NZ now other than historically in the past with groups like the McGillicuddy Serious Party or Mchphail Gadsby, Billy T comedy skits compared to other countries like UK making joke and real candidates all standing together, little britain, spitting image, US late night talk shows SNL etc etc. Maybe it’s an opportunity for budding comedic personalities or dare I say online kiwi influencers to pick up the baton in this space.

    There’a saying that tyrants go after comedians first but here the tyrants in politics seem to be the comedians.
