  1. word on the ground is that a lot of SME smoko rooms and offices in Auckland are wondering wtf is this govt. doing. and it ain’t in a good way. the sooner you get this info out on this US overlord backed grifter, the better. spread the word. Luxon is implementing an US hegemonic agenda and has no effing concern for the people of NZ/AO

  2. Yeah I’m loath to trust a tpu poll but this is the general vibe on the ground from friends in Auckland Central who canvass for labour and the greens, Chloe is the incumbent MP for an electorate that is deeply suffering.

The hospo, retail, entertainment and tourist sector in Auckland cbd is dying, businesses are closing at an alarming rate, the CBD is a ghost town and unfortunately being the incumbent is a poison chalice under these conditions.

It’s not Chloe’s fault this is happening but when times are tough the “throw the bums out” mentality takes over.

Chloe herself said noone is owed a free run at an electorate when labour said in 2020 that her run would split the left vote she laughed at them and she won, twice

So I disagree that labour voters have to get behind Chloe. Have a three way race and let chips fall as they may. The seat is historically a labour safe seat, the greens have never worried too much about splitting electoral votes in electorate races.

It’s truly a bugger we don’t have STV in electoral seats and mmp for the party vote though!

Chloe’s problem apart from the state of Auckland Central economy and being the incumbent is, she has to run a national (and to some extent with overseas voters an international campaign) for the green party, where as the labour and national candidates just have to run local ground campaigns, she’s not going to be able to run the same ground game she ran in 2020 and 2023 cos she wasnt leader in those elections.

Finally, it’s crazy how bad Auckland and Wellingtona cbds are, absolute Ghost towns, meanwhile Christchurchs CBD is thriving, stores are opening up faster than they can build them, while the population is surging, likely to be a million people in 20 years.

Auckland and Wellington need massive Keynesian infrastructure programs to inject jobs and boost the economy, the problem is the programs can take 10-15 years to see the true benefits to cities (like the chch rebuild) and we live in an instant culture we’re if something doesn’t show instant benefits it’s deemed a failure.

I hope Chloe or the labour candidate win obviously, because im deeply concerned about national causing a massive overhang by keeping their electorate seats but losing 10% of their party vote.

    1. As you say it is historically an extremely safe Labour seat.

The most notable Labour candidate who failed to continue that long line of history is Dame Jacinda Ardern who failed to win it not once, but twice (with National’s Nikki Kaye winning on both occasions).
