Surprise, surprise, ACT want to ban public art…
ACT pledges to stop millions being spent on roadside public art
The ACT Party will stop motorists’ money from being spent on roadside sculptures, art, and monuments in a new transport infrastructure policy announced on Friday.
Funding from the National Land Transport Fund (NLTF) has historically contributed millions of dollars to roadside public artwork, however, ACT said that, under its policy, this would stop.
Stuff
…from the people who know the price of everything and the value of nothing comes their latest Libertarian purification, this time roadside art!
ACT looked at roadside art and asked the only question they know: “But can it be depreciated for tax purposes?”
These are people who defend the burning of books based on property rights.
To ACT, public art is just a billboard that hasn’t found a corporate sponsor yet.
Why should a Party devoid of culture destroy it for the rest of us?
David Seymour believes beauty is in the eye of the beholder — provided the beholder has submitted a satisfactory cost-benefit analysis.
Paul Henry is a candidate for Christ’s sake, if he isn’t the literal personification of road side art, I’m not sure what is!
ACT wants roadside art gone because apparently even sculptures are receiving too much government assistance.
I love how the mere attempt to make our infrastructure bearable and alive must be crushed by ACT lest the people start to think creatively.
The problem with public art is that ordinary people can enjoy it without somebody invoicing them and ACT simply can’t allow that precedent to stand!
ACT doesn’t hate culture — they’re just waiting for the market to provide a cheaper one.
Under ACT, the only acceptable roadside installation will be a giant electronic board displaying the national debt with a Jordan Williams hologram.
Michelangelo had the Sistine Chapel. New Zealand under ACT gets a spreadsheet and a toll booth.
Charming.

It’s like his claim that if the Greens split up the supermarkets we would have no food, all he manages to show is the lack of connection between his mouth and a brain (if he has one). There is a lot to question about the price of roads but public art is not usually one of them.
Why should taxpayers fund so-called “public art”…get the interested partes to fund it
In Christchurch we have a big installation that costs a fortune to maintain while the road running beside it is very rough since the earthquake. We need better roads not art
That’s the problem. Letting ordinary people enjoy something they don’t have to pay for. Well, they have, but not right there.
The bird artwork at Piarere seems very beautiful but we aren’t allowed to have that. Let’s just have overgrown grass at the roundabout.
Doesn’t Seeless realize this is a very blue electorate, all the right people live there, all the right people see it.
David Seymour is like Scrooge McDuck.
Looks like he’s a total misery guts, a Moaning Minnie, an unappreciative barbarian. What’s he doing in Epsom, the home of people with taste and discernment? Maybe that’s where he belongs.
Paul Henry did a gig at the Redneck Central (Pub) the other day … was this performance art?
