$8m Michelin Star tax funded food wankery
Trans-Tasman races and secret audits: What an OIA reveals about NZ’s $8m Michelin deal
Internal briefing packs show officials anticipated public criticism.
They prepared Tourism and Hospitality Minister Louise Upston to answer questions about why the Government was investing in Michelin during a cost-of-living crisis, how it could justify the spending while hospitality businesses were closing, and whether the Michelin system could put additional pressure on restaurant owners and workers.
I think there is something terribly sick about a country that can find $8million from taxpayers to pay for wanky Michelin Stars when 180 000 kids are in poverty and this Government continues to cut back on Food Banks.
600 000 Kiwis need assistance from food banks every month.
1 in 4 Māori children are in poverty, 1 in 3 Pacifica children are in poverty and 1 run 4 disabled children are in poverty.
Food wank is nice for those with the money, but when so many are hungry in a land of plenty, this all feels very ugly.
I often wonder if hungry children watch Food Porn TV shows ever lick the screen in desperation.
We have our priorities so wrong in this country.
Independent Media is more important than ever, especially in the lead up to the Election. TDB is the largest Left Wing Blog in NZ and we have been operating for 13 years. The Hospitality industry got a real boost from there awards .The restaurants in Chch that got awards are so much busier than before with extra shifts and extra staff .I know of 2 top chefs who have decided to stay rather than go overseas.
The only way NZ is going to feed hungry children is to grow the economy with good investments in our future . NZ suffers from lack of vision and a weird attitude to success called the tall poppy syndrome
It is symptomatic of a government that chases elusive pots of gold under rainbows, promising that the next one will prove the big one.
Like the mythical pot of gold their promises always come short of reality. It is the “jam tomorrow ” government.
They have consistently lied to us for three years and want us to trust them again?
