Some insane hot takes by Luke Malpass at Stuff…
…what a surprise, he’s an apologist for Israel.
Unbelievable, the less said about his piece on the Greens…
The Greens – making the intellectual running on the left
In Early May, the Green Party released an industrial strategy – a blueprint, it said, for getting industry going around the country. Then in mid-May, it released the “Green Budget”, a document which laid out a high tax, government-first vision for the provision of public services. Then on Tuesday it released its fiscal strategy, which took am at the Public Finance Act for taking a narrow, in in its view, outdated and “neo-liberal” view of government finances.
These papers were variously decried as “madness” and “clown show economics” (Christopher Luxon), “an absolute circus of an idea” (Nicola Willis), a manifesto of “Chlöe Marx and Marama Engels” (Winston Peters) and “left-wing Trumpism” (David Seymour).
Labour leader Chris Hipkins said that while some ideas may be appealing on the surface, taken as a whole, it was “unrealistic.”
…not a fan then Luke.
Check out his profile…
…seems to miss out that he was also a researcher for NZs Atlas Network adjacent Right Wing Free Market think tank, the NZ Initiative!
Shouldn’t Stuff be a lot more honest about Luke Malpass and his relationship with the NZ Initiative?
This NZ Initiative…
MacCulloch highlights the oversized influence of The New Zealand Initiative
MacCulloch’s ire frequently targets the New Zealand Initiative, a think tank he repeatedly labels as the “National Party’s Adviser / Think Tank” and a lobbying group for corporate monopolies.
He highlights the connections:
-
- Finance Minister Willis was a Director of the NZ Initiative.
- The Prime Minister’s Chief Economic Adviser, Matt Burgess, was a Senior Economist at the Initiative and previously advised Bill English. Chris Luxon, as CEO of Air New Zealand, also used to attend Initiative meetings.
- The Initiative’s board includes figures like Scott Perkins (Non-Executive Director of Woolworths), Chris Quinn (Chief Executive of Foodstuffs North Island), and Barbara Chapman (former Chair of a Big Bank).
- The Chair of the NZ Initiative, Roger Partridge, is also the former Chair of Bell Gully, where Willis’ father was a partner.
MacCulloch accuses the Initiative of being “Pro-Monopoly, Anti-Consumer.” He cites their support for the Foodstuffs North and South Island supermarket merger, their push for lower bank capital requirements (which he argues would shift risk to taxpayers), and their opposition to requiring internet giants to pay for local news content (Google is a member of the Initiative).
He argues that the National Party hasn’t done the necessary work on economic policy, which means that the NZ Initiative can step in with some ready-made answers, which the Government essentially adopts as its policy. In this sense, MacCulloch accuses the Initiative of being a cypher for what the oligopolies want implemented by the Coalition Government.
The big banks, electricity companies, supermarkets, property developers, and petrol companies tell the NZ Initiative what policies would suit their businesses the best, and this is passed onto the Beehive, which loyally seems to implement them. According to MacCulloch, this has resulted in the Coalition Government becoming pro-monopoly.
This type of influence, together with donations and corporate lobbying, means that New Zealand’s political parties have been brought off. MacCulloch says such politicians should be forced to declare these connections: “It’d be good for them to be required to wear their gang patches announcing to Kiwis who and what they truly represent, rather than hiding in shadows.”
…So a researcher for a free market think tank now running the politics section of Stuff is not a fan of left wing politics AND he’s an apologist for Israel!
That’s a two for one special.
Money on the table Luke jumps to Jim Grenon’s New alt-Right Herald.
Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.
Luke has been hiding under his desk while his Mates destroy NZ .He was always mouthing off about what a shit government the last one was ,but as we are seeing more often ,they in fact presided over the excellent high growth this current lot has destroyed .The chances of NZ seeing 6% growth under this government is impossable .Luke wake up mate and tell the truth and how it really is .I have noticed how STUFF no longer has the weekend opinion writers it had before the last election .Maybe that is because Luke and his mates will be the laughing stock as they try to make out this government is better than the last .It is striking how quiet those Labour government bashers have become as they see NZ being destroyed daily by the current incompetents .
Exactly
How much money on the table? I’ll put up five bucks. . .
Luke is bang on the money. Israel acts for the West, hence why we see very little, if any, criticism of Israel from NZ government, ditto Western governments in general. Likewise, all mainstream media acts for their governments, hence why we have people like Luke. We are the rules based order and the mainstream media exists to push our message and neuter criticism of these messages.
Nah, this is silly. While ‘the West’ may not have been perfect in the past, it was never historically as evil as it is since the zionists subverted it to serve their bestial purposes.
Its all in the policy papers, Mo. Puppet Trump is merely following the script. Table of Contents on Page 12 clues us in to Israel’s role in this US fomented conflict. Its all there. On top of this is the obvious – how much criticism have you seen come out of the NZ govt, ditto other Western governments, and what, if any, actions have they taken against Israel?Look at the policy, look at our actions, together they paint a picture that supersedes Zionism – which in of itself, is more of an internal driver moulding a nation state rather than an external driver, determining its actions thereafter. We, the governments of the West, are the problem. but as can be seen by your comment alone, we, the people, are not going to get this point anytime soon.

I always find it repellent and somehow dangerous when words to describe other humans like’beastial’ ‘vermin’ cockroaches etc are used. It indicates a remorselessness that could be enacted against others and go anywhere – like the holocaust, the massacre in Rawanda, the slaughter of Indian tribes in Brazil by oil companies, the Israeli army against Palestinians and so on.
Israel is acting for Netanyahu. I don’t consider increased fuel prices and financial instability a win for us. The reason we don’t see widespread condemnation of what they are doing is that people are selfish and don’t care about the suffering of others, as long as their team seems to be winning.
Nope. Benny is our loyal servant, as this policy paper clearly denotes on page 12 “chapter 5: Leave it to Bibi: allowing or encouraging an Israeli Military strike”
https://www.brookings.edu/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/06_iran_strategy.pdf
And we they people don’t count when our corporate/financial overlords direct their political puppets to follow though on their policy initiatives. Throw in their mainstream media machine, whose job it is to promote narratives and or quell public concerns, and yeah, you can never fully blame the people for the way they care, or not, about any given situation. Nothing is left to chance, both teams, so to speak, are merely overlord manipulations, with the warring, and economically unequal and insecure world we live in today, the manifestation of overlord interests.
Malpass’s piece in the Press said ‘there is nothing we can do’ apropos of the Israaeli bombardment of Gaza. Apparently his brain doesn’t extend to the idea of booting out the Israeli ambassador. It is appalling stuff and is not journalism at all.
We could also stop all two way trade with Israel and prevent our navigation crystals being used in guided misiles
Fire him. Stuff needs to be more Left wing, not less.
Go you @ MB. Good on you for bringing manipulative liars to the front of the stage then turning the spotlight on the fuckers.
So, Scott Perkins (Woolworths) and Chris Quinn (Foodstuffs) are on the board of the NZ Initiative.
I imagine that provides them quite a few opportunities to slurp a few gins together and discuss (haw haw) the intricacies of maintaining a duopoly in NZ while ripping off billions from the populace without being prosecuted.
All aided and abetted by our corrupt politicians and media sycophants like Luke.
Scary, no wonder they, the supermarkets, want face recognition technology. The panopticon world by stealth. They certainly couldn’t give two stuffs about their ‘essential’ workers.
It seems to be Luke is no sycophant but an active promulgater of NZ initiative aka Atlas network aka Heritage Foundation propaganda, in the mainstream ‘independent’ media.
” So, Scott Perkins (Woolworths) and Chris Quinn (Foodstuffs) are on the board of the NZ Initiative ”
” Finance Minister Nicola Willis says she will turn her attention to the supermarket sector after this week’s Budget.
The Woolworths and Foodstuffs chains dominate New Zealand’s supermarket sector, and the government ha
That means that with regards to reforming the grocery sector Willis has no intention , despite her bullshit comments of doing absolutely nothing when it comes to tackling this monopoly.
LINO appointed a grocery commissioner on a lucrative package to do nothing. Two years on and nothing has changed and isn’t going to.

Yeah another reason Labour lost the election.
Forget firing Luke Malpass, he MUST be DEPORTED
Where to? He is a NZ born citizen. Be careful what you wish for.
Shh – don’t bother him with details!
Who’d have him?
The west are literally afraid to upset Israel because of what happened in the 2nd world war it’s called the
