  1. Basically it’s a popularity contest for PM. Labour needs a relatable Everyman/Strongman leader. Hipkins isn’t it. They should promote McAnulty ASAP. He’s likeable, he’s forceful, he’s genuine and he doesn’t have the Covid legacy hanging over him.

Last year in Wellington Hospital an Interventional Cardiologist who specialises in heart valve replacements was asked if he knew how many operations he had done half way through the year. His response was around 160. He was then told that “they” (management and Te Whatu Ora) had only budgeted for 35, and that he needed to stop doing these surgeries! As Gary would tell you,

Gary’s comments are spot on. If government actually spent some money on improving nurses salaries, and increased the staffing levels, the issues of wait lists could be addressed. If you start at ward level, nurse/patient ratios are not adequate. Improve that, and you will improve throughput. That then flows to outpatients, then to ICU’s and then ED. Slimeon Brown & Nikki No Boats then turn around and say that they are making a big deal about Wellington Hospitals ED issues, and how they are putting in a new critical care & ED building. It was already planned by Labour, and then paused by National. They are putting billions in to defence. If the took a quarter of that and put it in to health we’d all be better off.
