Oh sweet Jesus no…

Don Brash invests in NZME

NZME’s annual shareholders’ meeting is still some 47 days away, but there’s already one new high-profile, albeit minority shareholder who’s invested in the company so that he can be heard.

Unhappy that a full-page Hobson’s Pledge advertisement, earmarked for the NZ Herald, was rejected by NZME last week, former National Party leader Don Brashhas bought shares in the publicly listed media company.

The Hobson’s Pledge lobby group ad took aim at Prime Minister Christopher Luxon over the Treaty Principles Bill, with a Photoshopped image of his fingers in his ears.

Brash, spokesman for Hobson’s Pledge, plans to be at NZME’s annual shareholders meeting on June 3. That’s where Auckland businessman Jim Grenon is seeking to overhaul the existing board.

Brash said Hobson’s Pledge would continue to try to place advertisements in the Herald but he told The Platform’s Sean Plunket this week that he was also hopeful a new-look board might produce a “fundamentally different approach”.

“I bought a small number of shares in NZME myself last week because I am going to protest at the annual meeting,” Brash told Plunket.

…Don Brash joins alt-Right Billionaire to take over Editorial control of Herald???

What new hell is this?

As TDB has pointed out many times there are serious questions over Grenon’s true intentions at NZME which we argue are about editorial control for alt-Right culture war grievance revenge fantasies rather than anything bordering on the Truth.

Don Brash’s revisionist KKK historical fantasy that eliminates Māori rights under the Treaty fits perfectly within Genon’s alt-Right narrative wheelhouse so much so I wouldn’t be surprised if Grenon appoints Don brash as the new Editor of the Herald and Sean Plunket to join the Mike Hosking Breakfast.

This matters because NZME isn’t just a private media company, it is essential Fourth Estate  infrastructure that can’t be taken over by radicalised alt-Right Billionaire culture warriors.

Grenon would weaponise NZME in a terrible, terrible, terrible way.

  1. Martyn – NZME is begging for Government hand-outs, while rejecting $15,000 for legal advertising…

  2. Its amazing how backward the herald has become .I got news letter from the TAX PAYERS UNION last week that pointed out how bad Willis is running the economy .They said she was spending more than Grant Robertson and borrowing 25 million per week .But nothing in the herald or other so called main stream media .Clearly they have all become shit scared or are just fucken lazy .If we still had a Labour government they would be baying for her to get the sack .Time to wake up lazy media hacks .Where is the mouth piece MALPASS hiding he used to bleat every week on stuff about how useless Grant was and now his mistress is worse he says nothing .

    • GW – Willis is terrible, but it’s wrong to say she is ‘worse’ than Robertson. That’s because Robertson wasn’t bad, so there can be no ‘worse’ in his case.
The point is that Government deficits are not inherently bad – it depends on what the Government is borrowing for.
Willis is borrowing to fund tax cuts to landlords and for income tax cuts that favour middle to upper income earners. Plus, she is now borrowing to keep the lights on because she has driven up unemployment and sacked public servants – thus deepening a recession with the multiplier effect of that being a lowering of government tax receipts. This is bad borrowing that’s now required because she has put the economy into a doom loop.
Robertson borrowed to keep people and businesses afloat during a pandemic and more recently to keep economic activity going and make the recession as shallow as possible – which it was under his watch.

Don’t buy the bullshit about Robertson.
