Announce protest actions, general chit chat or give your opinion on issues we haven’t covered for the day.

The Editor doesn’t moderate this blog,  3 volunteers do, they are very lenient to provide you a free speech space but if it’s just deranged abuse or putting words in bloggers mouths to have a pointless argument, we don’t bother publishing.

All in all, TDB gives punters a very, very, very wide space to comment in but we won’t bother with out right lies or gleeful malice. We leave that to the Herald comment section.

EDITORS NOTE: – By the way, here’s a list of shit that will get your comment dumped. Sexist abuse, homophobic abuse, racist abuse, anti-muslim abuse, transphobic abuse, Chemtrails, 9/11 truthers, Qanon lunacy, climate deniers, anti-fluoride fanatics, anti-vaxxer lunatics, 5G conspiracy theories, the virus is a bioweapon, some weird Bullshit about the UN taking over the world  and ANYONE that links to fucking infowar.

  1. A fun loving Zionist, and Borat wannabe, goes trolling the streets to interview Palestinians.

You know the type, the type who would parade around in dead women’s underwear for fun.

Lightweight YouTube videographer Corey Gil-Shuster conflates Zionists with Jewish Israelis, as he conducts Vox pop street interviews of Palestinian Israelis, ie citizens of Israel,, questioning them; “Do you want the Zionists to leave?”

Most of the Palestinians questioned, are very guarded in their response, not surprising since Palestinians have been arrested for making even the mildest online comments criticising Zionism.

    From the BBC”
    https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-67181582

,,,The post that attracted police attention was an image of the Palestinian flag with the Arabic motto: “There is no victor but God.”

More than one Palestinian questioned say this is a dangerous question. The only Palestinian he could find, who gave the answer he was seeking, who said that she wanted the Zionists out, didn’t appear in front of the camera.
Some of the Palestinians interviewed by this clown, show fear, some show hesitation, one man stopped in a car, didn’t hesitate, ‘I want Zionists to stay, they are peaceful and treat us with respect’, and “All my friends are Zionists”
(hard to know what to make of that last part, irony maybe?). His male companion in the passenger seat looks terrified, two women in the back seat yell; Yes Yes we want the Zionists to stay.
Some of the answers are perceptive. and nuanced.
When one Palestinian being questioned tried to differentiate between Zionists and Jews Gil-Shuster corrects him. “They all say they are Zionists”.

    Worth a watch

  2. Best not to begin thinking analytically, even meditating. Once done, you might find you have to keep doing it. This extract doesn’t bode well for the thinking.
    https://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/HL2504/S00033/experience-confers-cynicism-not-wisdom.htm
    by Martin L Fevre
With experience comes wisdom, we’re told. But it’s actually just the opposite. Generally speaking, the accretion of experience denies wisdom and leads to cynicism.

Thinking on this subject, a few days ago I read two of the most unintelligent sentences I’ve ever read. They attest to the necessity of negating the useless memories of prior experiences, which is the essence of authentic meditation.
The author writes: “If I went to Heaven, surely the first few days would be pretty great. But would I eventually walk past golden mountains and silver trees and crystal ships on crimson seas with the same nonchalance with which I walk past granite mountains / wooden trees / etc. today?”

It’s a shrunken mind and heart that speaks of walking past granite mountains such a state of dullness and habit that one is devoid of feeling beauty or wonder. Yet the writer cynically proclaims, “We’re not designed to be as delighted by the thousandth sunrise as the first.”
Apparently he believes we’re “designed” to be as insensate as he is. It’s an astounding statement of self-ignorance to write such blather, reflecting a small, contemptuous view of life and human life…

Note the words ‘small, contemptuous’ which I have noticed from the self-satisfied too often and see on this blog too.

  3. https://www.rnz.co.nz/life/wellbeing/why-do-some-people-live-to-100
…He summarises the factors that contribute to ageing well with the acronym AGEING – Attitude, Genetics, Exercise, Interest, Nutrition and Getting rid of smoking.
A is for an attitude that’s positive and optimistic
    G is for genetics
E is for exercise – “Regular exercise is very, very important”
I is for interest – exercising your brain
N is for nutrition – “Minimising red meat in your diet is probably pretty important”
G is for ‘Get rid of the smoking’

I suggest one more thing for the advanced elderly to involve with – and that is passing on some of their learnings and wisdom and helping young people outside their own family, as well as within it. Good at the start of ‘Ageing’ would be added S for Sponsor & mentor. Stop feeling smart because you have lived so long and never tripped up big-time. Put something back in to the magic ball and the amazing people on it who are trying to make their unique lives. Teach them a thing or two, help them get some project going perhaps a group planning and co-operating to some useful or just enjoyable end. Don’t just be an old smart fart! If you are, show young ones how to make the best of their lives, be useful and kind.

    So make it – SAGEING!!

Perhaps the weather service could not find any sponsors for the additional info. Or the space to be used was filled with warnings about cancelled sports days; every damn thing but the important info that one wants to go straight to.

But that is our wonderful country under our wonderful politicians who have so much enjoyment playing all season people-chase. All interesting productions have a chase scene in them. But we haven’t had a good production for a while and only the chase scene to offer, and need something that stays in the memory similar to our regular element, the Moaner Lesser.

  5. https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/558614/volunteers-remove-hundreds-of-tonnes-of-highly-invasive-seaweed-pest-after-cyclone-tam
Look at these wonderful people – they and many others have done some hard mahi clearing away a pest plant that would otherwise become established. Isn’t it great. Send them some good wishes.

Perhaps we could set up a nationwide list of places that would appreciate help for people who want a change of scene for a few days and offer their services. It would have to be under control of the locals of course. But a database and some funding for a couple of office workers to keep it up to date and send out information could be trialled. Less cruise ship tourism and more community generosity stuff. It would have to be organised and controlled. Everyone playing their part and no hangers-on.

Read on. Form an opinion. Can’t keep on keeping on – now is the time for all good people etc. What to do Kiwis?

Those who can think, gather with those who can discuss, they gather with those who have practical knowledge and nut out possibilities, then run them through a computer program looking for the weak spots and the optimum height of the project. Then set about getting Kiwis to invest in it on a economic bank trust basis that is proof against the Australian banks finding ways to draw off funds. And buy a ship, get going.

Something like it has been done before. I bought and read the book, haven’t seen the movie! (Will put up name later.) But it was a great challenge and as good as Everest; it had a practical outcome for us. Everest ended up good as in return for their permission to stand on their highest point of the planet we gave some useful things back. Now we have to do something similar in NZ. The climate changes result in us needing different mechanisms than previously and there are many things to be considered. But we could start, as a Chinese philosopher says,
‘A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step’. (The quotation is from chapter 64 of the Tao Te Ching ascribed to Laozi,,,, https://en.wikipedia.org › wiki › A_journey_of_a_thou…)
Old fashioned now for the futuristic oglers but the thinkers among us have to be ready to revert to olden ways or get obliterated. More NZ shipping info from Te Ara. https://teara.govt.nz/en/shipping/print

Good reading for men! Hard facts, strength, determination and no romancey, girly, flight of fancy stuff. But going to sea in ships does seem to provoke strong feelings, emotions as in stories from – Nicholas Monsarrat, Alexander Fullerton, Douglas Reeman. The sea seems to develop strong men who are capable of strong romantic ideas about the sea and life. https://www.stuff.co.nz/taranaki-daily-news/news/77309624/captain-deepak-ahluwalia-sailed-the-world-to-find-home-in-new-zealand
