Senior doctors’ union defends strike plans, says government is risking patient safety

  • More than 5000 senior medical doctors will strike next month after pay negotiations with Te Whatu Ora stalled
  • The Association of Salaried Medical Specialists union confirmed an unprecedented 24 hour strike on 1 May
  • Te Whatu Ora says it is “disappointed” and “very concerned” about the impact strikes would have on patients
  • Health Minister Simeon Brown said the union needed to “do the right thing” and return to the negotiating table

It is despicable for Simeon Brown to attack 5000 senior Drs for striking when this Government have manufactured the public health underfunding that is causing them to strike!

Senior Drs NEVER strike for shits and giggles, for them to do this is extraordinary and highlights just how destructive this Government’s public health policy has been.

This is the Government agenda…

…they are purposely underfunding public health so the private sector can gain.

This Government purposely under funded Public health so that they could manufacture a crisis and slash costs so as to fund their tax cuts and landlord loop holes!

In the Budget, National allocated just 2.9% increase to health services but inflation was 3.3% and population growth 2.6% while an ageing population adds more to costs.

National gave 2.9% for health but we needed 8% to stand still, that under funding has manufactured a crisis National are attempting to use privatisation to solve.

The Sleepy Hobbits of muddle NuZilind are easily led, but even they see through Simeon’s smear and will punish him.

At some point sleepy hobbits, you are going to have to acknowledge National are destroying the public health we all rely on.

Your culture war grievances will mean jack shit when you get sick.

There’s a really easy solution here.

Tax the rich.

  1. Pee Wee Brown is virtually parroting Muldoon era union slandering. “Holding the country to ransom” when rare is the day that Drs ever take direct action.

This is an existential crisis for Public Health as the Natzos push privatisation.

  2. What a silly little man, lecturing senior doctors about what they should and shouldn’t do.
If we were in any doubt as to his suitability for the role as minister, we don’t have any doubts now. Another self-inflicted crisis.
Clever people bow to wide experience and knowledge. They don’t refuse to see the actual problem.

It appears that all senior, experienced, knowledgeable, well-trained personnel in every respected profession and field are trying to save this idiot govt. from itself. I would guess that a fair few of those senior people voted for them too. However since then, they have seen what a cruel, vindictive bunch of incompetent amateurs they are and are standing up to them.

When we see money wasted on silly projects like charter schools and such like, we know money isn’t that tight. If money was really hard to find, there wouldn’t be any of that frivolous nonsense.
They aren’t back on track. They are building little side-tracks all along the line for their favourites and to appease their masters. People are not blind to this.

If the govt. isn’t very careful it will cause a general strike and we all know that shows a govt. up for what it really is, WRONG!!!

  3. So Brown now realizes we need to spend $20 billion just to catch up ,but only wants to spend $2 billion a year because he realises all the trades people we trained under the last government have now left the country because he and his infantile mates shut all construction down .Even Stanford has had to swallow hard and reverse he cuts from the education budget and build the new schools the lst government planed and funded .

  4. Regular GP’s will soon (5 years or so) be completely replaced by AI systems imo. Even now, just type in your symptoms and answer additional questions posed by the AI based on what you’re telling it, will give you a better, more accurate and complete diagnosis than most GPs will do. Having your blood results analysed by AI is already today done much better than what your GP can do, since it has full body of clinical data and can parse all of it instantly and know how best to address it.

  5. Going by the salaries these doctors are receiving, I think this is definitely a ploy to tax the rich by stealth.

  6. He comes from the right so hates unions just like Bob the knob. Funny how much unions are hated yet unions were the ones that gave those haters the brilliant conditions we have today. I can imagine though those haters prefer the sweat shop conditions.

  7. And can A1 wipe people’s arses, take them to the toilet, clean their toilets and listen to them and deal with any stress and social issues, nah.

  8. I tihnk a tax of 15% on anyone not born in NZ in addition to Martyns tax the rich.

This money can be ringfenched for infrastructure.

  9. Te Whatu Ora says it is “disappointed” and “very concerned”. The usual weasel words from the PR consultants whom National hasn’t sacked: yawn; yawn; no one listens to these loquacious spin witchdoctors. To be fair to Brown, his intellectually less than average Bcomm able (is that now a real degree?) personal coach style go-girl boss was told by someone to give Brown a hospital (pun) pass. When senior doctors are striking there’s more than trouble at mill. National are apparently not getting rid of their worst leader (except Muldoon). However Peters and Seymour will shine. Luxon is the gift that will keep on giving. People can pray that Luxon finds his true calling.

    • “When senior doctors are striking there’s more than trouble at mill.”

      100% correct.
But for those working in health said this behaviour has been going on since Lester Levy was appointed by Luxon and Willis to “save” money. As said previously…The government found, under urgency, literally billions ($216M+2.9B) of dollars in financial ‘incentives’ (some would call them tax breaks) that is earmarked to go to cigarette companies and property investors.

Anyone and I mean anyone can see the problem here.

  10. He’s such a slimy little turd of a man. In bed pan parlance he would Simeon ‘Code’ Brown.

This tone deaf arsehole goes on about how doctors are highly paid without reflecting on the fact his donors with all their properties are loaded, don’t do a fing thing, and certainly don’t need tax breaks.

  11. What Simon hasn’t realised yet poor wee sausage is that it’s these senior specialists who do all his private work. Now wee Simon doesn’t understand that he is actually biting the hands of his “make our health system great again” poor wee lad it really shows he knows nothing about health best he goes home to his mother he shouldn’t be out on his own poor wee lad

  12. I have never had the time, patience or liking of Slithering Brown(as I call him).
He has the aura of being very sycophantic to whomever is National leader for his OWN intents and Purposes.
To be honest I think he is Two Potholes Short of a Sinkhole.
It does seem that each time there is a National government even within a coalition like the Clown Act that this one is there is deliberate Under-funding in Health and even Education.
Both are capable of being privatised that for National it’s all about Profit for themselves and their supporters than any sense of Social Responsibility.

  13. Got a news letter from taxpayers union yesterday .They are less than impressed with Willis and pointed out she is spending more than Robertson ever did and is borrowing 25 million a week .Now the $20 billion brow boy wants another $20 billion from his mummy because the health system is bankrupt .So in a few weeks they want to spend 20 billion on one road to Whangarei ,20 billion on making up for the under funding of the health system by English and a further 12 billion for bombs .Then the idiot Bishop thinks the charities can build social houses for $93 k each .Clearly they are all demented and if the tax payers union says they are doing a shit job they must be really bad if they are happy to swallow a dead rat and admit that Robinson was way better than nic no boats .Happy easter Bob the fist
