Announce protest actions, general chit chat or give your opinion on issues we haven’t covered for the day.

The Editor doesn’t moderate this blog,  3 volunteers do, they are very lenient to provide you a free speech space but if it’s just deranged abuse or putting words in bloggers mouths to have a pointless argument, we don’t bother publishing.

All in all, TDB gives punters a very, very, very wide space to comment in but we won’t bother with out right lies or gleeful malice. We leave that to the Herald comment section.

EDITORS NOTE: – By the way, here’s a list of shit that will get your comment dumped. Sexist abuse, homophobic abuse, racist abuse, anti-muslim abuse, transphobic abuse, Chemtrails, 9/11 truthers, Qanon lunacy, climate deniers, anti-fluoride fanatics, anti-vaxxer lunatics, 5G conspiracy theories, the virus is a bioweapon, some weird Bullshit about the UN taking over the world  and ANYONE that links to fucking infowar.

  1. Get a rise out of 1st April?
    From stuff –
Most payments from the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) will go up by about 2%, in line with changes in the Consumers Price Index (CPI).

That includes sole parent support, which is increasing by $9 per week to $505.80 after tax.

Jobseeker support will also increase by $7.06 to $324.61 (each) for couples with children.

Single people over 25 without children will get $261.31, while couples without kids will get $307.42 each.

Those on NZ Super and the veterans pension are in line for a 3% increase in payments. The increase is slightly larger here because it’s based on the net average wage, rather than the CPI.

For people living alone, fortnightly payments will rise to $1076.84. Those in couples will each receive $828.24.

For wage earners 35c cents more to $23.50 an hour. [Smallest for a decade.]
(I’m paying $300 an hour to my solicitor to fashion a will (for all seasons and reasons) at present, remembering it is for both salary and support of business.)

  2. A comment from a thoughtful and practical ratepayer in Porirua, or on behalf of. It is an anguished, reasoned cry that must speak for the majority of ratepayers everywhere in NZAO at some level.

    The absence of accountability
… But my submission went deeper than rates. It was an indictment of the leadership around Wellington Water Ltd (WWL), specifically the long-standing protection of Nick Leggett and the history of poor decisions that led to Porirua joining a flawed regional water model. I was a dissenting voice when Porirua opted into what would become WWL — a choice made against expert advice and, as we now see, against the city’s best interests.
Now, with the revelations of mismanagement made public, the defence of WWL’s leadership is not just tone-deaf — it’s dangerous.
I called out Mayor Baker directly, urging her to stop shielding those responsible and, if unable or unwilling to act, to step aside. That’s not political theatre — it’s democracy doing what it must when leadership fails.

This isn’t just about water infrastructure. It’s about trust. It’s about governance. And it’s about a community that’s tired of being spoken at instead of listened to….

  3. Let’s learn some French and get some joie de vivre in this duull country (apart from the great kapa haka).
But 400 festivals a year – let the good times roll and make sure we have one on election day to keep the semblance of a working democracy rolling!
What is a famous Cajun phrase?
Joie de vivre [Jhwa da veev]: Joy of living.
    Lagniappe [Lahn-yap]: Something extra.
Laissez les bons temps rouler [Lay say lay boh(n) toh(n) roo lay]: Let the good times roll.
With more than 400 festivals each year, this saying embraces the fun-loving nature of Louisiana.

To your list of shit that will get your comment dumped. You need to add ‘doxing’.

Halogen bulbs have a higher luminous efficacy, a measurement of how many lumens are produced per watt of energy. The higher the number, the more visible light produced. For example, glass and quartz halogens have a 16-24 luminous efficacy (lm/W), while 40-100 watt standard incandescent bulbs have a 12.6-17.5 lm/W.
