This is what captured grainy video phone footage shot at some distance from Sam Matue’s arrest and death in police custody appears to show.

They also claimed to the Herald they have seen Matue’s body and described bruises, bite marks and a split head….
….In a social media post, Niece Tenay Matue claimed police “played God” and “viciously took his life away” instead of de-escalating the situation.
She alleged police “unjustly” tasered Matue five times, kicked him in the head and punched, laid on and let a dog maul him during a period of at least 10 minutes…..
…….When questioned about these claims, police told the Herald there were several investigations underway and they would let “due process” be carried out.
Meanwhile, a family member claimed they had seen Matue’s body and described multiple bruises and bite marks to the Herald.
“They’ve destroyed him. He’s covered in bruises, he’s got bite marks from the dog, his head’s been split open.”
Earlier, police confirmed Matue as the victim and extended their condolences to the family.
“A post-mortem was completed on Wednesday, however Mr Matue’s cause of death has not been determined as yet,” said Counties Manukau District Commander Superintendent Shanan Gray.
Police on Monday clarified Matue was wielding a pole and not threatening officers with a samurai sword as they initially claimed……

An absolutely disgusting scenario, where the low hiring standards and lack of fitness of NZ Police to go hand-to-hand with someone they’ve already nailed with tazers got a man killed for no reason. Perhaps Bob because I have seen them lie in court many times and I know people including family members who have been assaulted by them.
The big problem is they think they are above the law.
Body Camera wont happen because the police Union has rejected all possibilities since ages ago and Police recruitment is already at an all time low. Accountability is not what the police do the toothless IPCA is just a window dressing mirage to give plausibility that they’re doing something however hope is still there for the whanau because rarely is footage captured of police arbitrary conduct and compensation is inevitable

Police are expected to stop crime they dont even know is going to happen then on a daily basis they are abused and assulted .We all expect them to come at the click of a finger and bitch like hell because they have not turned up because they are dealing with a career criminal that every one wants off the street .
Maybe they should all take a week off and just show us all what the world is really like if they are not there .

The few police I know are really solid citizens and they have told me what happens when no doco cameras are there, its fair and intended to stop the situation. They expect to be shot at one day and intend to survive. Guns in gang car car boots started 10 years ago, every car boot!
The guy who died was living a 501 life which is way shorter than most. Body cams would be good and show the whole damned senseless drama of some people’s lives.
