John Key was smart enough to hide his wealth (he always dressed ‘down’ to casual CEO level).
He had a gut sense where middle NZ was and he was happy to give in terms of minimum wage rises and welfare increases if it meant holding the centre.
Over his 3 terms, it was his gut feeling that replaced National Party Philosophy and Values.
When he left, National didn’t regain a sense of purpose and what quickly replaced Key’s gut were hollow principles that were nothing more than donor interests.
The last election was a grudge fuck against Labour driven by post Covid bitterness, people voted National without appreciating what that meant under the weak leadership of Luxon trading in the common good for their donors interests.
A year of this alongside the racial divisiveness has spooked the country.
Polling is bad for National and the Right are cannibalising each other as ACT comes for National’s reactionary vote while squeezing NZF under the threshold.
The country is sicker and more hungry thanks to this Government’s Austerity Agenda…
- One in four children (27.0 percent) lived in households where food ran out often or sometimes, up from 21.3 percent in 2022/23
- 10.7 percent of adults had an unmet need for professional help for their emotions, stress, mental health or substance use in 2023/24 – more than double the rate of 4.9 percent in 2016/17
- One in 11 adults (9.1 percent) and 8.2 percent of children aged 2-14 years ate the recommended amount of vegetables
- Fewer than half of adults (46.6 percent) met physical activity guidelines, ie at least 2.5 hours of moderate-intensity activity in the past week – down from 50.9 percent five years ago
- One in three adults (1.5 million) classified as obese, rising to nearly half of those living in the most deprived neighbourhoods
- Nearly half of adults (44.9 percent) reported unmet need for dental care due to cost. Rates were worse for Māori, Pacific, disabled, people living in the most deprived neighbourhoods and those aged 25-54 years
- One in four adults (25.7 percent) and one in five children (18.5 percent) reported that “time taken to get an appointment was too long” as a barrier to visiting the GP in the 12 months prior to the 2023/24 survey. This is higher than the previous year (21.2 percent for adults and 14.8 percent for children). In 2021/22, the figure was 11.6 percent.
…every economic indicator is negative.
We are sicker and poorer and this Government has no solution other than more cuts to public services.
Insolvencies are up, cost of living continues to bite and we have a Government who have given a pittance back in tax cuts for the poor while cranking up user pays.
What’s the point of a $14 a week tax cut if costs are increasing by $30 a week?
If Trump implements his tariffs it will see the US dollar spike.
We buy our petrol in US dollars.
A shockwave like tariffs could see our petrol prices spike which will immediately push inflation up while job losses explode.
We could have the dreaded Stagflation.
Ensuring National’s rich donors are ok while the rest of us suffer doesn’t seem like much of a plan.
Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.
My red neck ACT voting brother in law now realizes he made a massive mistake at the last election after getting caught up in the race baiting and river of filth fake news .He is absolutly gutted that he could not see through the hate being whiped up by NACT .
gw to make your point you quote third parties whom in my opinion are fictional.
No he is not do you want to meet up with him .
good to see you back dumb arse
No Bob what is fictional is the CoC government already many promises to get elected have been broken and it is all the last government’s fault.
His third party is totally factual I can assure you. I have met some of them and they are totally insane.
They would have voted for a carrot except they were red. Now they vote yellow and black. Join those two colors and see what it’s like.
Thats why they are getting nervous, they are starting to realize they are in the shit.
Thanks Daniel.
Great made up story bro!
My sister in law is very pleased she voted ACT, she seeing what they campaigned on is being enacted, she will certainly vote for them again!
See, it’s easy to make up stories eh?!
Is that like the made up health budget blowout , or the pure magic of borrowing billions for a tax cut but somehow not borrowing billions for a tax cut? Or is it the made up bullshit of Seymour, Costello and McKee?
But the current polls suggest otherwise eh, you’re wrong?
Depends on which poll you look at Clive!
TVNZ still has the coalition in government, or do you only like the ones that show different?
It’s 2yrs till next election, who cares what the polls say, no doubt you will get excited at one that you like and dismiss others as rogue that you don’t like.
At least I talk to other people and listen to what they are saying unlike idiots like you who just go, I RECKON .
You must be a bore at dinner parties GW.
We will take with a pinch of salt what people say to you, rather strange they all voted for the right and regret it now…funny that eh lol
With respect gordon I suggest you widen your circle of friends which will help broaden your narrow mind.
“We could have the dreaded Stagflation”
We have this already – it just that our economic and generalist journalists don’t understand what it is.
At same time Lux is selling all his property’s cashing out or should I say bailing out fast
I’m still wondering what a “grudge fuck” is.

@ MB. You Write “All this Government has is austerity and cutbacks for us, corporate welfare for their mates”
It’s the same as it ever is. Since roger douglas rammed neoliberalism up us without the kissing 40 years ago.
We must make those fuckers atone. We must seek vengeance and recompense. We must not let them think that getting sprung therefore, oh dear, never mind, moving along. We must make roger and his gangster clan pay for what they did and are still doing to us.
14 multi-billionaires, 3118 multi-millionaires each with a starting gate figure of $50 million net and four now Australian owned banks that were the anz, bnz, asb and westpac take more in net profit from us than anywhere else in the world except Canada would not agree, and we’re still not directly acting on that.
Our rural primary industry is depopulating and dying. Our cities are becoming ghettos where people live and die on the streets and vultures are circling our once was-paradise. Since 80K people turned up for a hikoi then
how about 1.8 million turn up to demand a public royal commission of inquiry? OUR AO/NZ isn’t a country. It’s more a landmass populated by a crime wave.
Killer white
That’s what the Jews said in military circles and the civilians echoed without any vision of what would follow –
‘We must make those fuckers atone. We must seek vengeance and recompense.’
Our little tribulation with neoliberalism, is not yet as bad as what has happened elsewhere. The people have been encouraged to, or allowed it to, play out elsewhere in the world, and wasting your time looking for vengeance doesn’t help us plan for a future. Even at the end the slimy boys and girls will slide out with crie
Smile, sigh, and put your back into something that will be helpful to those of us who think we have some integrity, wit, nous, grit, and…a sense of humour and honour fighters for understanding and a better way out of the murk and muck like Noam Chomsky, on his last legs, and Aldous Huxley RIP, just two who come to mind. And there have been women too, but not as many as there should have been because… of the ‘Look over there’ syndrome.
Yes, and to make matters worse there will be no evidence-based research with the funding cuts to Marsden Grants favoring the governments rich business mates who want more and more including free research dollars to make them and their companies even richer. And last week they didn’t hold back from expressing their joy.
Well, as long as there are more right wing mates than leftvwing at the next election, then all is well.
There will be an abundance of right wing voters at the next election, the thought of a 3 headed Ogre Labour/Greens/Maori too terrifying to contemplate.
Still enjoying that photo of Nicola Willis in her pajama’s eh Bob?
Oh is she not Bob .I thought she was just using that as a Pen name
She’s a rather nice highly competent person juggling motherhood while being in a very demanding job.I suggest her ability exceeds most everyone who comments on this site and in particular Clive and gordon.
A photo of Nicola a good idea but out of respect not in her pajamas.
The rose tinted glasses have fallen off. I’ve heard criticism from people I never thought would change their minds, being nicely ‘sorted’ themselves. They can finally see what they’ve done.
They realise their children and grandchildren will not thank them for allowing this appalling govt. in.
People didn’t like the look of Luxon but held their noses. They should have trusted their first impressions.

Because you are so thick MSN is Microsoft News you know that right wing american owned site that hate indigenious people and working class people and is trolled by fucken idiots that think they are well off
“All this Government has is austerity and cutbacks for us, corporate welfare for their mates”
Its a sickening pattern this, it happens all over the world, all the bloody time…I wonder how the fluck we combat this because electing a different party only ever seems to, at best, push this gut rot to the curb for a wee while, but it never, ever, ever goes away. Fark me!
Perhaps its high time this issue received prime time investigative time. There’s more than enough evidence to show that this crap has never benefited the general populace. Perhaps I’m wrong, perhaps there’s evidence the other way. This effin issue, this shonky economic ideology needs to be put to bed for good. A well-funded, public-interest, prime time, investigative piece/series may do the trick. Its hassle our pollies time….
I predict an unprecedented majority for the right at the next election.
The thought of a coalition Labour/Greens/Maori is terrifying.
Glad to see another poster from the right side of the track back to support the cause.
Yep enjoying those pictures of Nicola Willis in her pajama’s on the bedroom ceiling eh lads!
the last govt were 100x better this morbid train wreck CoC things up
Bob! you’re back. how was boot camp?
Let’s face the truth Labour spent money we did not have and promised to spend more ,National is trying to cut back and live within our budget .It may be hard but in the long run the country will come right .
Trevor you are now officially full of shit. Borrowing billions for a meaningless tax cut is nothing of the sort. When are all you Luxon cheerleaders going to ask him why he voted for the wage subsidy during COVID?
Trevor. But the country may not come right. “ I’m rich. I’m sorted” has to be one the most self- gratifying and uninspiring Prime Ministerial utterances since Nero fiddled – and we all know how that ended.
Rubbish Brigid…and Nero didn’t ‘fiddle’
Wasn’t invented till 400-500yrs later, get your facts right.
We know who is coming all right Trev, that picture of Nicola must be splattered to death by now!
what budget is that Trevor? the National budget that is putting us further into the red?
you have no idea how FIAT currencies work and are just a flaccid mouthpiece for luxons limp CoC.
so what have we got from this government of waste .Every thing put in to the long term future of NZ by the last government has been cancelled .New Schools ,Hospitals ,Cook Straight Ferries just to name a few OH and dont forget all the new houses that have now been scrapped even though the hard yards setting up all the water ,sewage and ground work has been done ,so now we have hundreds of empty sections ready to build on sitting there growing weeds .Next your shitty mate Bishop will be giving them to his mates for free to build high priced houses on .For 5 years 50k houses were built in NZ ,now we might be lucky to build 20k per year .All the money invested in training apprentices has now been gifted to AUS who have a flock of well trained tradies turning up on their shores .Thats the definition of Waste ,
