Look, I don’t want to shit on the guy because he’s clearly struggling a year in, but in the wake of Hooton’s excoriating column criticising Luxon’s woeful leadership, doesn’t Luxon’s interview seem delusional?

      I watched with gobsmaking awe that interview of Luxon ….the hubris and blind ignorance was extraordinary..Something to behold really….
      It was toe-curlingly embarrassing.

      Remember…This was the open up the borders in the middle of one of the world’s most deadliest pandemics guy….the anti abortionist …the religious zealot…the guy who pretended he was in a small town in N.Z. when he was actually holidaying in Hawaii.

      A deceitful, delusional, clueless, blokey, back patting social climber who is consistently not across the detail that he needs to be across.

      N.Z. should thank his god that both he , and the Coalition of Chaos, were not in power when the pandemic hit.

  2. Baldrick “Luxury Luxon” is definitely the worst, most ineffective, unqualified PM in my lifetime. And he may be a chump–but he is a nasty chump–“bottom feeders” etc. having enabled this CoC to crap on the working class from a great height. The Public Service and Health sector is being laid waste before our eyes and it seems CoC are determined to finish Roger Douglas agenda.

    Without Act and Winston running the show he would be easy meat, and he still could be given the recent appearances of Jenny Shipley and Chris Finlayson, the Natzos are concerned.

  4. Luxon may not be my favourite PM and he is well down the list of good ones.

    But, he remains far more competent than Jacinda Ardern and Chris Hipkins both of whom did immense damage to New Zealand and New Zealanders.

    • pdm. Yes. Some realise how societally damaging Ardern the Kind was, but one of her most cruel legacies was Luxon the Terrible. He’ll likely bolt, but the landscape remains bleak. Hipkins hopeless.

    • Strangely the report on the covid response came out yesterday and some very knowledgeable people would say you are mostly wrong. Do you have examples of the 2 Lab. PM’s terrific incompetences?

      Were they making life worse for the people who can’t help themselves.
      If you can help yourself, you should, and not depend on the state to give you handouts.
      You shouldn’t expect what amount to bribes either.

      Luxon is damaging morale even without the threat of covid and that is his worst crime. He’s making even the reasonably comfortable feel uncomfortable, especially knowing that their comfort comes at the expense of people who need serious help.

      Short term savings end up being a worse cost at some stage. The need doesn’t go away just because you don’t want to pay for it. e.g. Dunedin Hosp.
      The whole health system is at risk and you think that’s good.
      I hope you never need the health system, being mindful that not every serious condition can be dealt with in the private system. Hope you don’t need the education system or any other kind of public service.

      To avoid all those, you might need to go and find that stone again.

    • pdm – what is your evidence to show that Jacinda and Hipkins caused “immense damage to New Zealand and New Zealanders.”

      While the recently released report said that the lock-down in Auckland went on longer than it should have, overall, Jacinda and her government did an excellent job around the COVID pandemic for which there was no template or guide book. Above all else, her measures saved 20,000 lives (official statistic).

      There was also the financial support package which Jacinda and her government established to assist businesses stay open during COVID and while many businesses are now closing, likely from the recession deliberately introduced by the governor of the Reserve Bank, at the time, many of these businesses managed to survive.

      So, back to my question to you – what is your evidence that Jacinda and Hipkins caused “immense damage to New Zealand and New Zealanders?”

      • youngsuffrajet Ardern’s “ Don’t talk to the neighbours “ was one of the most cruel things ever done to single elderly persons living alone, in the history of this country.

        Ardern’s advocacy of global censorship of free speech to the United Nations was bad.

        Ardern’s “ Unless you hear it from us it is not the truth,” was untrue and misleading.

        Ardern’s “ We will continue to be your single source of truth,” was also misleading.

        Ardern’s te Pua Pua agenda, hidden even from her deputy, was constitutionally dubious, divisive, and not put to the electorate pre-election.

        Ardern’s refusal to meet, or engage with , or listen to, the Parliamentary protestors and allow Mallard to torture children, women and men with loud music and water sprinklers against the advice of the police, was counter-productive and helped escalate the situation
        while politicians watched safely from the Beehive, protected by the cops who got injured in the process, just like the protestors did, with whole police teams covid infected and re-infected, and ditto their school age children put back into quarantine, and missing more school time.

        Ardern was a bit doctrinaire about tax too, I reckon.

        • Aunt Daisy – Jacinda did not tell us not to talk to our neighbours. If you believe this then unfortunately you have been brainwashed by the nut-job and far right wing conspiracy theorists. During the lockdown she urged people to keep the 2 metre distance recommendation when they spoke to someone including their neighbours. Many people spoke to their neighbours but kept the safe distance when they did so. It is sad that you have bought into this nonsense rhetoric.

          Jacinda did not advocate global censorship at the United Nations. She was warning against the spread of disinformation on social media and was attacked by those who pushed disinformation and hate speech across social media. What you and these other people have conveniently deliberately left out is that she accepted her comments could be seen as being hostile to the values of free speech.

          Jacinda did say and admit to saying “we will continue to be your single source of truth.” The context around this was the emergence of rumours and speculation including disinformation that had spread across social media during the COVID pandemic. Intelligent people ignored the social media nonsense and did listen to the government at the time and from this they were able to form their own opinions, e.g. around the length of the lock-downs.

          The He Puapua report. which suggested a separate Maori Parliament/upper house, and separate justice system, and ownership of foreshore and seabed, was not kept secret. It was prepared by Willie Jackson but eventually did not return to Cabinet so it had not been approved. Typically, the National party distorted the narrative on this and obviously some people bought into the National narrative.

          Your comment about the protest at Parliament needs comment too. Mallard was the speaker of the house at the time. He was not a Labour MP and he was not under the direction of the Labour Party or Jacinda. And yes, Mallard made a fool of himself when he did all those stupid things that upset not only the protestors but also many other people too, but he was not under the direction of Jacinda. Also, she was not the only MP not to meet with the protesters.

          I am not sure what you mean about Jacinda being doctrinaire about tax!!! But the definition of doctrinaire is – “seeking to impose a doctrine in all circumstances without regard to practical considerations. Maybe you should have a close look at what the current coalition government controlled by Seymour, or is it Luxon, mmm, I think it is Seymour, is doing across the board especially with the divisive, racist and appalling Te Tiriti Principles

        • what a load of crap .At no time were we in NZ instructed to not talk to our neighbours .In fact during the first lock down I meet more of my neighbours than before because they were out as families walking the streets and would stop and chat when I was in the garden .
          Now sadly things have returned to the past and we are worse off so far as having contact with those same people .

  7. Managing a tripartite agreement particularly a political one is incredibly difficult.Many predicted the Coalition would blow apart within a year which it hasn’t.For that alone I think Luxon deserves some respect.

    • But that’s the issue, he’s not running a country to support all people Daniel, just a couple of very small components.

  8. Shoulder tapped to run the show. But the corporate world is not quite the same as the political arena. John Key pulled it off to some degree – despite what one might think of his politics – but Luxton’s a different kettle of fish. It’s been a steep learning curve for the former corporate CEO and he’s got a way to go yet. Wouldn’t mind betting the role will visibly wear him down even more than it currently appears.

  11. It is gobsmacking to see a PM so unpopular after just one year in office. Can’t recall when and if this last happened. He is deeply unlikeable, despite the pathetic and embarrassing attempts to show him as an every day man, and worse even, a powerbroker on the international stage, where I am sure most are saying “who is this jumped up little man who insists on clutching my shoulder?

Probably Dunning- Krugger syndrome, one of the low ability people without the skills to recognise their own incompetence. The possibility of him leading alone is scary, but it won’t happen.

  21. I don’t think from the Year Zero(aka the Great Leap Backwards) in Luxon’s limited logic since he became a John Key Promoted leader of National did Luxon really have any Attention let alone Caring towards NZ and NZers.
    NZers outside of an election time have little or no relevance or reason when it comes to self-serving politicians like Luxon, Seymour or Peters. Luxon ONLY cares about Luxon.
    For Attention Seeking Luxon there was and is ONLY one Primary Attention Seeking Want Luxon wanted and that was even down to perhaps his wife calling him ‘prime minister’ after election night 2023.
    The Actual Facets of the job and what it truly entails is beyond his attention span and he will probably, as per usual, refer to his As Per Rote responses to questions that Out-Scope his capacity to answer and therefore blame someone else as a Avoidance Tactic.
    And so we have it and that is an Out of Touch with Reality Part Time Prime Minister of a country that he like his beloved John Key prefer to be not in but places upon himself Preferential and Supposedly a representative of whilst flying around the world on an RNZAF plane he pre-election wouldn’t fly in and living in an accommodation(AKA Premier House) some nights a week that he claimed was unliveable until the NZ taxpayers who paid for its upgrade now lives in???!!!!
    It seems that Luxon isn’t exactly living a true life but one of self-centre-ness and the ME FIRST mentality.
